Who Spent $15,000 On Drugs While ‘Researching A Role’?
Today we have only two sad little items. One about a comedian who’s doing drugs, shockingly. The other is about, well, an actor who’s doing drugs. But it’s research for a role. So.
1) “Which funnyman doesn’t even bother to hide his drug habit? When pals come to visit his pad, they’re just as likely to see baggies of cocaine lying around as they are to see throw pillows.” [NYDN]
2) “This B list movie actor is on the cusp of A list. He had a breakout year last year. He considers himself to be a method actor to some extent. For researching one role he spent a great deal of money on drugs. Just for research mind you. Since he considered the research crucial to his acting performance he wanted to know if he could deduct the $US15,000 he spent on drugs.” [CDaN]

For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what drugs are for
Really, Richard, who among us hasn't done all of that?
depardoo
a) Katt Williams
b) Franco
Robin Williams, will you never learn?
2) Lindsay Lohan (aka Seth Rogan)
NicoKace
1) Nick DePaulo
2) Ryan Gosling
I can see why it's a blind item. Who wants it known they have throw pillows in their house?

1) Seth Rogen, it just says funnyman and he's in that movie about people that are funny.
2) Gonna go with Bradley Cooper.
Cecil's Wielder
I swear, Your Honor, I just shot and killed him to see what it felt like. I have this upcoming movie role and I'm dedicated to my craft. I just won't give less than 100%. I promise that from now on I'll only kill people in the movies. 'K?

2. Tobias Fünke
@semiserious: i was thinking Franco too..it smells of him.
Heywoodjablome
@Cecil's Wielder: Bradley Cooper's on the cusp of A-list? He does have that coked out look on him, but really? C+ at best
iamjustjules
1)Richard Pryor
1. Jack Black
2. Mickey Rourke
pooks
@pooks:
Jack Black has babies and bluegrass. He doesn't need snortable throw pillows.
@iamjustjules: I'll agree you with solely based on your Pure Adrenaline edition icon.
Cecil's Wielder
2. Changed my mind-- it's def Franco.
pooks
@DennyCrane: I like Gosling for this-- it does say "method actor" and all.
@DennyCrane: Gosling isn't A-list?
eatsshootsleaves
2. Sounds like Christian Bale. Last year was breakout, but isn't he still on the cusp of A list? Plus ... lunatic.
@pooks: Didn't Rourke admit to spending money on steroids for The Wrestler?

1. Jason Segal
2. Robert Pattinson

@depardoo: yeah, but those items are still pretty depressing

1. Artie Lang.
@EhBologna: Let's call the hero "Raskolnikov" and the movie "Crime and Punishment" and it's a go!
1. Wally Cox.
2. Wally Cox.
PS That "oh is it deductible" joke is hoary, if not apochryphal.
2) That's why dealers always ask, "Do you need a receipt?"
LATTEFACTOR
i like pooks call of mickey rourke for #2
rayday
@pooks: Rourke sounds good for a METHOD actor using for a part, but he's sort of un-gradeable, A list? C list?.
The rest of the guesses are just regular usage for those actors, tho I suppose Rogen or Franco could try for Pineapple Express.(B. Cooper method actor? really?)
Gosling if the movie is 3 year old(Half Nelson).
If I get audited I'll show them all those copies of checks I signed with "for drugs" written on the memo line.
@LATTEFACTOR: Yeah, where are the receipts!
+ Watch video
@dandles: as you pointed out, it would explain the hissy fits, wouldn't it?
@semiserious: Think you're right...
GuyBitchy
@miriamwebster: Agreed on both counts.
1. Robin Williams is the biggest cokefiend in Coketown.
2. James Franco admitted to 'watching two men have sex' as part of his 'research' for Milk, so I don't see this as being remotely out of character.
eleusiswalks
2)I know for a FACT that Franco did a whole bunch of drugs to get into character for City by The Sea.
Vaughn Iston
1.) has Charles Nelson Riley written all over it...
leemacnyc
@Meeg: I keep a ledger for my accountant. he hates when I give him a pile of receipts at the end of the year and say "you figure it out"
Kitten_Witawip
@bytememehard:
Thank you for being a drug
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.
And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a drug.
Kitten_Witawip
1) Larry the Cable Guy
2) Dane Cook
I think I got this one!! WOOO!
@dandles: I would hazard that 1) Christian Bale has been officially A-list since Batman Begins in 2005 (although critically acclaimed/reasonably well-known for longer) and 2) his lunacy is natural rather than drug-induced.
Treeless
Oh come on, let's not judge. I do drugs for "research" all the time. I also drink a bottle of wine per night as an experiment to see how much long-term damage my liver can take before it explodes. It's all in the name of science!
@pooks: that's my guess.
Wannabeer
1. Patton Oswalt.
2) Little Jimmy Franco.
Wannabeer
@J-No: would be heroin nowadays no?
I could see Josh Brolin for #2.
jupiterspaw
1. All of them.
2. All of them.
And just what is so depressing about having coke baggies all over your place? It means you've got the money for a serious habit. Good for you.
