It's Puerto Rico in the ... early '60s? "The Rum Diary." Hunter Thompson's "lost novel." Long rumored to be in production. Then Hunter Thompson died. Then ... ? Now? Little car, Johnny Depp as young/angry Hunter Thompson, the bowling journalist in San Juan.
"It'll be funny, because, you know, it's small." laughed the director. Depp rolled his eyes, shook his head and mumbled, "Whatever." He climbed into the car, looked at his co-star and said, "Slide over." The co-star complied. "No, the other way!" Depp screamed, wondering what he had done to deserve this.
