I remember watching "The Best Little Whorehouse..." when I was a kid just hoping to get a glimpse of those funbags, only to be extremely let down. Sure there was plenty of chest-fruit to freeze frame, but Dolly's were mythical. It would have been like walking through the forest and coming across a Unicorn.

@hfree: Yeah, the NYmag article about her said she has a gazillion wigs, but they're all just about the same length and color, and her hair is the same length and color under them. That's awesome. ^_^

I have to admit I loves me some Dolly. I was but a child when 9 to 5 came out and I can't tell you how many times I watched it as a child.

I think she's starting to get a bit Cher-like with the botox and the wigs.

But the thing that resonates with people is that despite all the things that are "fake" about her (wigs, makeup, etc), she truly is just a "regular gal" who thinks and acts just like you and I. Part of her appeal I think is also that she readily admits (and boasts even!) about her "fake" parts, and does it with a wink and a smile.

@undefined: I wasn't allowed to bring Jem and Dolly to friend's houses, because some bitchy mom was disturbed by big-breasted Dolly and called my mom. I believe that I was called both a "mutilator" and a "deviant." Lady had me half-pegged, anyway.

Mom thought Dolly was hilarious got me a bunch of sequined trims and glittery ribbons, so that I could fashion decent tops for her.

The musical 9 to 5 just got nominated for the most Drama Desk awards in history. I like Dolly and I fucking LOVE musicals so I will be getting the soundtrack to this (although I just got Spring Awakening two days ago and that came out in '07, so I probably won't get this till 2012)

Whenever I see Dolly Parton, I remember the time when I was little, and the older neighbor girl next door held up a peach and said, "who does this remind you of? Dolly Parton!" And I didn't get it but had to pretend that I did, which felt weird.

I get excited whenever I see that Dolly Parton is going to be on a talk show. Not, like, REALLY excited. Just regular excited. Because after all, it's just a talk show interview. But she is always really funny and charming and clever. As she is in this clip. And, additionally, I appreciate that she took the time to change hairstyles between appearances.

I love Dolly to death but I wish she didn't go overboard with the plastic surgery the way she did- her lips barely move when she talks. She was always a natural beauty, she didn't need to change a thing!

Did anyone else ever read her children's book? It was called "Coat of Many Colors". It made me cry, at the age of eight, and made me feel a whole lot better about my working-poor childhood.

I remember getting one of her cassette tapes almost two decades ago, and I feel in love. Its comforting to still feel that flame all these years later. I don't remember if it was Bitch or Bust (I wanna say Bitch?) they had a really amazing 4-5 editorial on her. Its definitely worth a look-see.

Everytime I see her on tv, I feel like a little girl watching her on Hee Haw for the first time. Dolly is better than Santa Claus! I'm so glad to see all the love for her, and for her endearing, gracious ways.
