Tinted Windows – “Kind Of A Girl”

So yesterday as I was trawling the grubby interwebs looking for some interesting material to share with you all, I stumbled (no, really!) across some heavily Photoshopped pictures of Taylor Hanson gagging on doodle and covered in the kind of stuff Perez Hilton likes to draw on the images he steals from photo agencies, and I thought to myself “Hmmm, I wonder what the lads from Hanson are doing now? Other than reproducing like rabbits and not actually smoking pole?”

And I discovered that Taylor Hanson has formed a “supergroup” called Tinted Windows with… wait for it… the drummer from Cheap Trick, the guitarist from Smashing Pumpkins, and the bassist from Fountains Of Wayne.

Says Wikipedia:

Tinted Windows is an American rock band formed by guitarist James Iha, previously of The Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle, singer Taylor Hanson of Hanson, bassist Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and Ivy, and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick. This new project will run alongside all the artists’ main bands. The band will play their first publicised gig at 2009’s South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, March 20 at The Velveeta Room. The band is also scheluled at New Jersey The Bamboozle music festival on May 3.

After the jump, Tinted Windows’ debut single.

What do you think of it? I think the chorus sounds okay (very whoa-y, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing – right, Wes Cougar Carr?) but the production isn’t doing much for me. But what do I know? I have old ears now. I think the song could grow on me. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to Hanson, Cheap Trick, Smashing Pumpkins, and Fountains of Wayne and thought to myself “If only I could combine elements from each of these groups to form some kind of alarmingly unexpected pop rock band built to confound fans and critics alike!”

Also: terrible band name.
