Ben Cousins Injured!

Last night on the way home from a Comedy Festival preview show (more about that later), we asked the cabbie how the Richmond/Carlton game had gone. “Carlton flogged ‘em”, he informed us. Then we asked how new Tigers recruit Ben Cousins had performed. “Ah, he busted his hammy…” The driver paused dramatically, and we hung on his every word. “… he’s on ice for six weeks!”

“You wag!” we chortled to the driver, “is this part of the Comedy Festival or what?

And then we found out poor old Ben Cousins really had hurt his hamstring. And the cab driver confessed he’d stolen the ice joke from football commentators, and the whole trip suddenly turned sour.

Ben Cousins’ return to the AFL ended in bitter disappointment last night as he hobbled hurt from the MCG while his Richmond teammates battled Carlton. Cousins tore his left hamstring as the Tigers took on their most bitter rival in the season opener tonight.

Happily, it looks like the cab driver went overboard when it came to guessing how long Cousins would be out for – the Herald Sun reports it may only be three or four weeks. Which is still rubbish, but better than six.

Urgh. That’s the longest I’ve ever talked about sport. NEVER AGAIN.

So d’ya reckon you’ll be doing an ‘zomg you must see these comedy festival acts’ piece?

The Schedule is an impenetrable fortress of complexity and I have not been able to find a way of picking acts.

I am getting sick of hearing about Ben Cousins this and Ben Cousins that. He is no different too any other footbal player out there, but he has been caught up with drugs and that is nothing to be proud of. The media have a lot to be blamed for here with all the hyp around his return. His is just going to be another Wayne Carey when he went to the Crows. He was ment to be there savour, but spent more time on the side lines broken down with injury, and Ben Cousins has just done that in his first game back.

  • Cousins’ injury topped off what was pretty much the worst possible night for the tigers. Let’s not forget Raines went down as well (3-4 weeks). As Cousins’ tear is a grade one, and given his history of hamstring problems (in fact he has injured his hammy in 6 of his last 13 afl matches) he could well be out for 5-6 weeks.
