Midnight Oil Happy To Rock Once More For A Good Cause

Just as they did for the 2004 tsunami benefit WaveAid, Midnight Oil have agreed to reunite for the Sound Relief concert at the MCG to raise money for victims of the recent Victorian bushfires. Use that spazzy dancing for good, Pete!

Some of the most popular acts in Australia, including Wolfmother, Jet, Paul Kelly, Gabriella Cilmi, Kasey Chambers and internationals Kings of Leon and Jack Johnson will play the Sound Relief bushfire benefit at the MCG on March 14. In a major coup for organisers, Labor MP Peter Garrett has agreed to reunite with iconic Australian rock group Midnight Oil.

Wanna hear a few more acts that are playing there?

Midnight Oil, Hunters & Collector and Split Enz will reform especially for the Melbourne event, while Coldplay (acoustic), Eskimo Joe, Hoodoo Gurus and Icehouse will play the Sydney version of the show held simultaneously at the SCG on the same day. Jet and the new look Wolfmother will play both cities.

I’m gutted I won’t be in Sydney to see Icehouse bang out my favourite song of yesteryear but I’m sure a few of you will go and be kind enough to let me know how they sounded, yeah? If you won’t do it for me, do it for Ladyhawke.

By the way, I know there are quite a few bushfire benefit gigs happening in many cities, and they’re not all featuring acts like Midnight Oil or Coldplay so they’re not going to get the flogging in the media that the MCG/SCG shows will. So if you are a publicist who would like to get the word out there about the gigs, please send me an email (tips at defamer.com.au) and let me know.

PS: Given a recent hilarious blind item we ran on Defamer Australia, I am interested to see how two of the rock acts on the Melbourne bill get on. Ha!
