J.D Not So Fortunate After Being Fired From INXS

I honestly believe that the last televised talent contest I really and truly lost my heart to was the hilariously awful/amazing Rock Star: INXS. It would appear all I need in order to be satisfied televisually is Dave Navarro swaying around in leather pants, Garry Gary Beers being consistently awesome, and the memory of Michael Hutchence being assaulted on a weekly basis by a cast of would be rockers who include a dude who used to appear on Australian children’s show The Ferals. I think this may make me a bad person, but I don’t care.

Moving on. Viewers who followed the program a few years back would be well aware that the winner of the contest to take over the role of frontman of INXS was a cocky chap named J.D Fortune. His KILLER ROCK TRACK ‘Pretty Vegas’ had the band being played on commercial radio once more (and not in the “here’s a walk down memory lane” kind of way) and for a while, the future looked bright for J.D Fortune.

A couple of years on, it has all come crashing down for him in spectacular fashion. Living in a car! Battling cocaine addiction! Fired in an airport!

The winner of the 2005 reality show Rockster:INXS has been fired by the band, leaving him broke and living out of his pickup truck.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Fortune let the cameras see how desperate his life has become ever since INXS told him he would no longer be the band’s singer at a Hong Kong airport.

Cold, INXS dudes. Cold.

His addiction to cocaine was the possible reason he was let go from INXS, but Fortune claims that he used drugs to cope with the inevitable split, saying that his cocaine use “got as bad as it needed to be for me to numb out the fact that [he] knew this was going to come to a screeching halt.”

And while J.D may be living out of his car post-rock glory, there’s still a glimmer of hope in the poor man’s life. Maybe his new record will sell like hotcakes! What? It could happen!

… now that he is clean and sober, Fortune is willing to let the public see what’s become of his life so that he can promote his self-released forthcoming album, The Death of a Motivational Speaker.

Nothing convinces the public to invest in your musical wares like an epic tale of woe.

Oh, Jess, I LOVED that show!!!! Couldn’t get enough of JD and his ‘Human Being / Being Human’ tatts and earnestness….they were all so compelling, and had (relative) talent compared to the crap in competition
I was SO excited when they announced there was going to be a Rock Star : Van Halen (can you IMAGINE!??) but of course this was not to be….maybe some other hair band will step up and release me from my terminal boredom!!!
