‘30 Rock’ McFlurryGate Overshadowing More Persuasive iPhone-Contra Affair
For all the e-ink spilled over whether 30 Rock gave the McFlurry too much product placement last week (even Jane Krakowski is unsure now!), we think there’s a different, far bigger case to be made.
Namely, the McFlurry references felt organic, as 30 Rock has a habit of tying that sort of jokey, downmarket fast food to its most glamourous guest stars (witness Isabella Rossellini declaring her lifelong love for the Arby’s “Big Beef and Cheddar” way back in Season One). No, it’s the constant, prominent placement of the iPhone in the last two episodes that’s really caught our eye. Every character seems to own one, make calls on one, and constantly show off pictures on one (in lengthy close-ups, no less)—even Jack Donaghy, who we totally figured for a Blackberry Storm man.
Here’s a mere sampling of the iPhone’s screen time over the last two weeks. And yes, we took these pictures off our TV using the iPhone. Can we have our money now?

As we all know, Apple is The SHIZIT, so I would rather see Apple products then crappy pcs on my tv any day. They look better and on top of receiveing money/and or products from Apple for showing these products it also gives them more cred because – and I hate to repeat myself – Apple rulz tha skool. Beside this I have never noticed that they are iPhones, as I don’t have one, so is it advertising if you don’t know what the product is? In regards to McFlurry, whatever – it was clever and funny, it might make me get one next time I go to McDonald’s but it might not. The classic moment for me IZ Michael McDonald. OH HILAIR!!
