How Seinfeld’s New Show Will Work

10:36PM Defamer Hollywood | Comedian Jerry Seinfeld gave the New York Times exactly two examples of disputes that might be tackled in his (dubiously) forthcoming reality show The Marriage Ref.

Jeremy Piven Cries, Escapes Punishment

7:10PM Defamer Hollywood | Jeremy Piven convinced five other actors his mercury poisoning is real, deadlocking a union hearing and sparing Piven penalties for leaving Speed the Plow. How did he do it? Maybe with some crying. More »

Download ‘1901′ By Phoenix For NOTHING!

4:56PM Jess McGuire | You cool cats need to get your hands on Gallic pop wonders Phoenix’s new song, okay? Please. Trust me on this. I got the heads up from highly respected taste sculptor of the youth Zan Rowe and I will be eternally indebted to her. And in the style of the dismal Haley Joel Osment film Pay It Forward, I am passing Phoenix’s new song ‘1901′ from their upcoming album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix onto you. Take it, and give it to those you love. It’s a free download from their website and it’s a perfect way to get your weekend started. Do you trust me? Of course you do! Kanye West Is A Big Fan Of Chris Brown & OJ Simpson.

4:26PM Jess McGuire | Sometimes I think Kanye West is a bit wrong in the brain. He’s a quotable chap, to be sure. His response on his blog about looking rather old and grey on the cover of Vibe Magazine was hilarious – “I’M ALL DOWN WITH BEINGS IN MY 30′S BUT DAAAAAAAAMN!!!! THIS IS SOME BENJAMIN BUTTON’S SHIT!” But other times he sounds like someone a bit touched in the head who happens to be missing that incredibly important ability to realise when it’s a good time to shut the hell up. Here’s an example – he recently did a stint on VH1 Storytellers, and perhaps rather wisely they’ve decided to cut out a few of his more moronic comments. A little later, West asked the crowd, “Can’t we give Chris a break? … I know I make mistakes in life.” He was referring to R&B singer Chris Brown, who was arrested on the night of the Grammys on suspicion of beating his girlfriend Rihanna. Letter From The Editor

3:53PM Jess McGuire | Hey y’all, What’s going on? Having a grand Friday? Glad to hear it. So I just thought I’d take a minute to keep you up to date with a few Defamer Australia related things. You ready? Firstly, you may be aware of what’s been happening with our American cousins. It’s still going to be business as usual here, so don’t worry your pretty little head about it, okay? We’re gonna polish the place up a bit, add some ace stuff, and your favourite pop culture site will soon take the concept of “time wasting awesomeness on the interwebs” to brave new heights. Secondly, Your Editor is now doing television reviews for Melbourne breakfast radio show The Breakfasters on RRR every Monday morning. If you’re in Melbourne, tune into 102.7FM. If you’re not (or if you’re addicted to the web LOLOLOLETC) you can stream from rrr.org.au. I am on at 8:15am AEST, OKAY? Okay! Thirdly, perhaps you are not aware of this but I also do a segment on ABC Perth’s Drive program with Russell Woolf every Tuesday afternoon. I think I am usually on about 3:45pm local time, but I can’t be sure. All I know is that I answer my phone at 5:45pm, and that I really, really struggle with working out time zones. Fourthly, I am now occasionally doing pop culture spots on ABC Darwin’s Evening show with the lovely Melanie Tait. Keep an ear out, NT-ers. Fifthly, Blip.fm – how good?! I am obsessed. Consider this link your personal mix tape from Defamer Australia. Oh, and apparently we’re on Twitter now as well. You can follow Defamer Australia by clicking here. FINALLY… Welcome to my new favourite song. I dare you not to jive… I dare you. And no, I don’t know what that clip is all about. Is that Spike from Buffy dressed like a Confederate soldier!? What?! x More »

Competition: Final Countdown…

3:00PM Kym Weathersten | Two hours. Yep, there’s just two hours left in our Confessions Of A Shopaholic comp. Which means you have a measly 120 minutes to land yourself one of twenty double passes to the rom-com. To win, simply confess your greatest shopping weakness, in 40 words or less, either here, or in the comments section below. And if you’re struggling for inspiration, take your cue from Gillian, whose confession/question; “Chupa Chups. What is not to love about those things?” really got us thinking. Gillian… we can think of nothing. [Terms and Conditions] More »

Empire Of The Sun Enjoying Adulation In The UK, Name Dropping Like It’s Going Out Of Style

1:02PM Jess McGuire | Defamer Australia readers should already be well familiar with the genius of Empire Of The Sun – we went mad for it in September, and the whole country seemed to get on board which resulted in the single Walking On A Dream going great guns in the last Triple J Hottest 100. Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele are currently wooing the British press and doing a great job of it, if the following excerpt from The Sun is anything to go by. Margarita’s, Star Wars-style costumes, Indian head-gear and guyliner. Just a normal Monday lunchtime for wacky newcomers Empire Of The Sun. The psychedelic Aussie duo are on a mission to conquer the world – and I wouldn’t bet against it. More »

Bushfire Benefit @ The Corner Hotel

12:00PM Jess McGuire | As promised, here’s a heads up on just one of the many Bushfire Benefit gigs happening around the country, and I’m more than happy to plug them on here because it’s for a very, very worthy cause. The Corner Hotel will be hosting a rockin’ benefit show on Sunday 1st March. Featuring acts like X, Rocket Science, Even, The Basics, and Gun Street Girls (Dave Larkin of Dallas Crane’s new outfit) and MC’d by the lovely and forgiving Julia Zemiro (I say forgiving because I drunkenly informed her the other week after the RocKwiz gig at the Myer Music Bowl that I once wanted her dead so I could steal her job, but “now I think you’re tops, so, you know, you can live” and she was nice as pie about the whole thing), it’s going to be a corker of a show. And of course I will be there prancing about like a mad woman, so it will be nice for us both to hang out if you make it down there. Do you like how personal I’ve made this? Yeah. Just the two of us. Like old times. The full press release and details on how to buy tickets after the jump. More »
