Paul Harragon Leaves The Footy Show
It’s beginning to look as though any ball-kicking related show, regardless of the code they happen to follow, will be getting a makeover in 2009. Hot on the heels of Trevor Marmalade’s axing from the AFL wing of The Footy Show? Paul Harragon has announced he’s leaving the rugby league version.
Radical formatting changes and a makeover of Channel 9’s ailing NRL Footy Show have forced key panellist Paul “The Chief” Harragon to quit.
Here’s what the man himself had to say.
“The Footy Show, like any business is undergoing big changes for its future success,” the former Newcastle premiership winning captain said today.
“I was very pleased to be offered a role as a part of that future, however after some careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that the time is right for me to move on.”
The Footy Show suffered its worst ratings slump on record last year and despite calls for its axing, Nine boss David Gyngell promised the program would be back in 2009.
Sad news for Paul Harragon fans, but for the rest of us who can’t wait to see the time slot dedicated to something half decent and actually amusing, it sort of seems like amputating the limb of a patient who is dying of something else entirely.
Oooh, whaddabitch! Sorry footy fans, I hate me too. What can I say? I just can’t get into “nuffy” humour anymore.

I am writing this in the hope that it could be passed onto Paul Harragon. I have a very special nephew who is turning 18 on the 30th May and he has cerebal palsy. He is devestated that Paul has quit the show and keeps asking me what I think the show will be like with out him. His life is his music, his computer and of course the footy show. Paul – I am hoping that you could make this special boy’s birthday one that he will never forget and I am hoping you could do this by sending him a birthday msg by way of a video.I know you get lots of requests like this, but he would just be over the moon to hear from you- his hero. He is a great kid and we love him heaps. Hope to hear from you soon. His name is Guy Rojo.
