If U Seek Amy! New Britney Spears’ Song Won’t Be Getting Airplay In The States Any Time Soon

I have the new Britney Spears record (and it’s good, by the way, although I’m about two months behind everyone else in the world in telling you that) and the song titled If U Seek Amy went completely over my head. Which I think makes me quite sweet and naive and adorably pre-teen – at the very least, much more innocent than when I was an actual pre-teen with a potty mouth and an encyclopedic knowledge of sex due to excessive consumption of Dolly Doctor columns/Dr Rosie King articles in Woman’s Day.

Britney Spears’ latest single IF U Seek Amy is facing the axe from U.S. radio station playlists over its controversial lyrics.

The Toxic hitmaker’s forthcoming record features the chorus “All of the boys and all of the girls are beggin’ to, If YoU Seek Amy”, with the last four words sounding like “F**k me” when sung quickly.

Well, I wouldn’t agree that singing the letters F – U – C – K sound anything like FUCK but it certainly spells it out.

An American radio DJ explains why she won’t be playing the track on her station.

She tells Mtv, “It’s okay to put in on an album, have fun with it, but we’re publicly owned, you know? We have a responsibility to the public, you put this… out and act like we’re all fuddy-duddies, like we’re trying to make moral judgments.

“It’s not about us. It’s about the mom in the mini-van with her eight-year-old.”

Everything is about the “mom in the mini-van with her eight-year-old” in this life. Can’t you give us childless wenches something, radio gods? Oh, what do I care? Commercial radio in Australia won’t be playing the brilliantly titled IF U Seek Amy any time soon, so unless I fancy an ear-diet of non stop Sneaky Sound System/The Potbelleez/FUCKING PEZ AND THAT FUCKING FESTIVAL SONG FROM HELL, I may as well just listen to my iPod – a safe haven for swear-spelling pop tunes. I recommend you do the same.

You do not know how happy it makes me to know there are others who share my disgust for that “Festival Song”.

    Oh, and I love Britney.

Don’t worry Jess, you’re not alone here. Only after reading this post, then singing the lyrics aloud did I realise I had been spelling out naughty words when singing along to If U Seek Amy. Even my friend, one of the gays, hadn’t realised!! But, needless to say, it will be a lot more fun to sing along now. Thanks Jess!

completely agree. the festival song… horrid. am i missing something? why is it so popular. anyway, nova is already playing ‘if u seek amy’.

  • Mike Brown

Yup, heard Nova play it this afternoon going to a point of explaining what the title meant without saying the magic word – I was trying to work out who was edgier, Nova or Britney…

    Festival Song is rubbish.

I think it is a fab song and I had no idea after singing it over and over again what it was about or why they were making such a fuss?? I thought she was having a pop at the lovely and well behaved Amy Winehouse!
Get over it America, Britters has had a seriously hardcore time over all her pschological issues, good at her for making a comeback son like that. If ‘mom’s’ don’t want to hear it, put on a storytape for the adorable 8 year olds!
