And To Think Some People Complain About Australian Commercial Radio!

Ladies and gentlemen, here are the songs that were flogged to death on the wireless during the last financial year, according to the adorable sounding Phonographic Performance Company Of Australia, a group I like to imagine is run by a guy who looks like this.

Anyway. Let’s see what was rockin’ our radios during the 07/08 financial year, yo!

The Veronicas, Rogue Traders and Powderfinger are the most played Aussie artists in the country, but a tune by little-known electro group The Potbelleez has claimed the most airplay in the past year.

Little known? They played in the pouring rain during the Australian Idol final, you know. If Idol can’t make you credible and famous beyond comprehension, then…

Erm, never mind.

Don’t Hold Back by Sydney outfit The Potbelleez was played more on local radio and TV than any other homegrown song. The dance track, which was nominated for several ARIA Awards in 2008, was the only Aussie track in the top 10 most played songs.

As for the foreign contenders…

US band Matchbox 20 nabbed the No.1 spot with its hit How Far We’ve Come, edging out Into The Night by Santana and Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie.

Wow, what an awesome triple threat of tunes!

The following little nugget of information may explain the existence of the Facebook group “The Song “Untouched” Is Currently stuck in my head and wont come out.”.

Overall, the Veronicas received more airplay than any other Aussie band, coming in at No.6 on the most played artists report.

And there you go.

It should be noted that the best Veronicas-related Facebook group to join is called “Why are the Veronicas’ video clips one big incestuous innuendo showcase?”

TRUE DAT.
