Top Gear Australia Presenter Returning To The UK; Jazz Musician James Morrison Will Be Bringing His Best Dad Jokes To The Team

Perhaps Top Gear Australia host Charlie Cox was somewhat disappointed with the response from viewers to the Antipodean remake of the beloved British car show, or maybe – as he claims – he genuinely has too many work commitments in London. Whatever. Either way, he’s leaving the show!

Cox, who presented the first series with Steve Pizzati and Warren Brown, said he couldn’t give enough time to the show due to business commitments.

“My time on Top Gear Australia was very special and it was a fantastic opportunity to be part of launching an extraordinary series,” Cox said. “Sadly, though, I’ve lived in the UK for the past 19 years and I’m not able to give the time I want to series two.

And what can we expect from replacement James Morrison then?

Morrison, a legendary trumpeter and former Behind The Wheel host, said he was “thrilled” to be joining the team.

Wait for it…

“I don’t want to sound like I’m blowing my own trumpet … but I think series two is going to be bigger and better than ever. I just hope some of the challenges include playing a chorus of the blues,” he said.

Well, if that’s an example of the rapier sharp wit we can expect from Series Two of Top Gear Australia, producers have nothing to worry about.

Viewers! Do you think a Charlie Cox-less Top Gear Australia is more appealing?

    Wow, the great leap sideways.

While we can but applaud the decision to scrap Cox, why was the choice of new host made whilst the production team were clearly hungover from the office xmas party?

No offence, but James Morrison is not known for his sparkling personality and quick wit.

The whole show is a pointless remake and in my opinion a shameful waste of SBS’s limited funds. I mean let’s face it, why would you try to remake a show about the amazing world of cars in a country that has just two unique makes? A quick visit from Jeremy and the boys is all you’d need. I guess SBS saw the massive revenue stream that comes from the associated products and licked their lips. Now that James Morrison’s on board … FAIL. Epic Fail. They should have invested the money in other original programming.

It’s a pity to see Charlie leaving the show, by far he was not the weakest presenter. And at least he knew something about cars.
To all Australian’s who have judged this show harshly, I saw it’s only becuase you compare it too the original. Conpare it to any other previous aussie car show and it looks a clear winner!!
    Bring on Season 2.

Ye gods! I couldn’t stand watching Oz Top Gear because none of them were shaggable or funny. At least we don’t have to listen to Charlie’s nasal tones anymore, just Steve’s. Quick tip, SBS: if your female viewers don’t get “ladywood”, you don’t get the ratings.
