Please Welcome The Latest Addition To The Cartwright-Hewitt Clan
I started my Tuesday with an explosion of joyous expletives after discovering that not only had Bec and Lleyton Hewitt finally offered up confirmation to the good people of Australia that their second child – a boy – had entered the world, but they named him… oh god… they named him… IT’S TOO MUCH! I’M TOO HAPPY ABOUT THIS! YOU MUST READ FOR YOURSELVES!
Tennis ace Lleyton Hewitt has turned to soccer star David Beckham for inspiration in naming his newborn son. Lleyton and his wife Bec are celebrating the birth of their second child, Cruz. Cruz was born in Sydney’s Royal North Shore hospital on Thursday. He is a brother to Mia, 3.
I always said (with love, naturally) that the Cartwright-Hewitts were the Bi-Lo Beckhams of this fine country of ours, and now they’ve gone out of their way to confirm it.
I think Lleyton’s grandfather sums things up nicely.
Lleyton’s grandfather, Max Hewitt, said he was “overjoyed” about the arrival of his great-grandson. “It’s great, especially a boy, everyone wanted a boy,” Max said. “A girl would have been good, but a boy’s great.” Mr Hewitt said the choice of Cruz as the child’s name came as a surprise to the family. “It was a shock,” he said.
“It was a shock” that they would go so deliciously and obviously bogan. God love them.
After Lleyton starting having regular tanties at the gossip magazines who continued to make up stories about the state of his marriage on a weekly basis, I though the Hewitts had reached a point of maturity where they realised that selling their life to the public ensured that during those moments they needed privacy and time away from the spotlight, the press would always be there and quite happy to fill in the blanks when the couple were choosing not to speak to media.
The couple have stayed true to form and sold the story and photos of the addition to their family to a women’s magazine.
While Mia’s first photoshoot was with Woman’s Day, Cruz is going to make his public debut in OK! magazine after the couple signed a lucrative deal with the publication several months ago.
I guess I was wrong.
Nevertheless, congratulations Bec & Lleyton, and welcome to the world, little Cruz! Expect to see the name shoot to the top of the Most Popular Baby Names list of 2009.

The combo of “z-H” makes it sound like “cruise you-it”, but even worse is the spelling. Every time I see it, I misread it as “Crud”
The Bi-Lo Beckhams. ROFL, love it!
