Yes, Shanina and Tom are now officially a couple, with the only thing that had been holding back their love – Tom’s pesky original girlfriend – happily discarded like Todd McKenney’s trousers at a happening shindig.

She might not have won Make Me a Supermodel, but the show has brought runner-up Shanina Shaik love. The Hoppers Crossing teen’s TV flirtation with fellow contestant Tom Penfold has blossomed now that the pair is away from the cameras.

She confirmed yesterday she and Penfold, who shared stolen kisses on the Channel 7 model search despite Penfold having a girlfriend, were an item.

“You could say it’s official between us, but it’s still new,” she said. “Tom and his ex-girlfriend are not together any more. They both decided it was for the best (they split).”

Yes, I suppose Tom’s girlfriend may have felt that the fact her lover was spending his days ramming his tongue down the throat of another model while being filmed for a nationally televised reality show was an indication the relationship was not going to last forever. Best to move on, then.
