Highlights From Last Night’s EG Awards

For some reason, I am still alive. But my head hurts.

Here are some highlights from the evening in no particular order.

&middot Julia Zemiro hosted, and was as charming as you would expect her to be. Kicked off proceedings with the line “The best thing about being the host of RocKwiz is being asked ‘What’s it like being the host of Spicks and Specks?’” – she had the audience in the palm of her hand.

&middot Little Red played. Drummer Taka is quite literally the happiest creature on the planet when he’s playing music. If you can YouTube footage of them live, see for yourself.
&middot Awards were given out! Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds won several, which were accepted by Nick’s son/catwalk model Jethro. Jethro appeared to be rather festive (WEREN’T WE ALL?). By the time he came onstage for the last award, he was keeping the speeches short and sweet – “I’ve already got three of these so if you’d like a signed one – fifty bucks!”

&middot Then Julia Zemiro returned to the stage and announced “Jethro Cave! Jethro is here all week, try the veal”

&middot Oh god, oh god. What else?

&middot Oh yeah. The Presets won something, and Julian was there to pick up the award in person. He’s a nice fellow, isn’t he?

&middot Then there were other awards.

&middot And then Died Pretty were inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

&middot And then Died Pretty played and everyone was happy.

&middot Not Jethro though. He was on the smoking balcony jiving with the missus instead of watching the band. I know this cos I ducked out for a cigarette. God help me, I must quit!

&middot The All Star band played some great tunes, including one where Lilith Lane sang Shark Fin Blues by The Drones and my heart skipped a beat.

&middot Then there was some drinking backstage.

&middot And then I was dancing with Died Pretty frontman Ron Peno and singing my favourite Died Pretty song (which they didn’t play on stage, those bastards).

THE END.
