DEFAMER AUSTRALIA IS YOUR GOD NOW
Ahem. Remember earlier in the year when, like some kind of straight girl-bending Uri Geller (Gal-her?), I made Vanessa Amorosi and Ruby Rose indulge in ladylove at the ARIAs with only the power of my mind? Or something quite like that but sort of less exciting and impressive?
I’VE DONE IT AGAIN.
Ladies and gentlemen, in case you missed it last night…
And now let me take you back in time to December 2007 and check out what I predicted whilst in the midst of demanding the newly out Tim Campbell begin dating Anthony Callea:
We love the idea of the nation’s blue-rinse set having a couple of Calamites to love and adore as their very own. We envision touching duets during Carols By Candlelight, photo spreads in Australian Women’s Weekly, and perhaps even a reality show? The grannies will lap it up, and you’ll do more for gay rights in this country than the success of both Queer Eye and Will & Grace combined.
When my beloved friend Lee rang me late last night (well, late for me – I was tucked up in bed by 8pm due to “early morning radio commitments”) and happily screamed “CALLEA AND CAMPBELL ARE SINGING A DUET AT CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT!!!!!!” into my ear, I sleepily felt a strange but intoxicating mix of both happiness for my rainbow brothers and sisters… and absolute power.
PS: Do you think Anthony does “trumpet hands” when making mouth love to Tim’s doodle?
PPS: In all seriousness, they are just adorable. Dear Baby Jesus, thank you for the gift of theatrical homosexuals in love. Yours, Little Jess Defamer x
UPDATE: I just told my genius friend Fluffy about my magical powers, and she quickly quipped “Make the Yuletide gay!” ——> Have added this to the ever growing list of jokes I should have made on Defamer Australia if only I were half as clever as my chums.

spot on!
“PS: Do you think Anthony does “trumpet hands” when making mouth love to Tim’s doodle?”
Absolute gold!! Abso-frickin’-lutely hilarious!
Weren’t they so cute together, the sheer amount of splodey gayness was almost too much to handle..
It actually pisses me off they sang as a ‘couple’. Rather than suggest Australia’s tolerance is growing, it actually points out how truly far we have to go. If this were the UK they probably would’ve kissed and there wouldn’t have been complaints! They barely shared the stage!
I thought the duet was just wonderful and I do think we have come a long way. They are just gorgeous, I love them both, they make beautiful music together, its wonderful to see them so happy and open about their relationship and it doesn’t hurt one little bit they are a couple of spunks. Ed your comments make absolutely no sense at all.
I thought Tim outsang Anthony. And I must admit to spraying a mouthful of ginger beer on the monitor when I saw them standing next to each other. Everyone should have a pocket gay!
Put your snags on the barbie!
I was going to mention the Ultimate Naffness of “grab the holly, put the snags on the barbie” (oh, Tim!) but Hannah has beaten me to it.
I thought Anthony and Tim’s duet was fantastic very entertaining and lots of fun. I also thought they were gorgeous together and agree with everything you said Wrighton. Its so beautiful to see how relaxed and happy they are together. I disagree completely with you Seb while Tim is a great singer and very entertaining he definately didn’t and would never outsing Anthony. I completely loved their song and thought it added a lot to the Carols.
I quite enjoyed their duet.
Though Tim is not of Callea’s calibre as a vocalist (and is the first to admit it) I thought they sounded great together and they, and the audience, enjoyed the song.
Kudos to Vision Australia and Channel 9…and to Tim and Anthony.
I thought they looked adorable together and their voices blended well, though I did have a little chuckle at the volume on Anthony’s mike being turned right down so Tim could be heard properly.
They really do make a gorgeous couple.
Kiss, straight or gay? This was Carols By Candlelight, not The Bold and The Beautiful.
Their performances were excellent and Anthony Callea’s an awesome singer who knows when to belt and when to hold back. Well done to them for pushing boundaries and breaking some of the stereotypes reinforced here, just by being their classy and appropriate selves.
