Nicole Kidman Ponders Talk Show Retirement After ‘Letterman’ Appearance Gone Awry

If Hollywood is soon to lose Nicole Kidman to motherhood, at least she’s going out in a blaze of glory! The actress appeared on Letterman last night to promote Australia (we’ve seen it, and we feel safe in saying that Kidman’s nose gives her finest performance ever), and the host/guest interaction was so uncomfortable that even Kristen Stewart sent Kidman flowers afterward (with a note attached that said, “Damn, girl. Loosen up!”).

Hard to say exactly what went wrong, but things simply seemed off from the start, as Kidman seemed acutely unable of more than two-word responses, and repeatedly failed to pick up on David Letterman’s conversational cues. “I’m just smiling!” Kidman insisted. Oh, so that’s what that was!

I was watching Letterman last night and was so tempted to use the remote! I was cringing watching a fellow Aussie be so inarticulate and sound such a dill.Surely after living in the States for so long, she knows Dave’s style of interviewing. Thank God Simon Baker followed, but given so little time with Dave who should have used his considerable skills to shorten the “talk” with Nicole. Oh dear, Nicole, go back down South and stay on the farm, talking to the animals.

I’ve never liked Nicole Kidman, I always find her grating.

This is definitely the best performance of her career!

    Thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • Alan

That was the best performance of her career thus far.
You truely are a terrible actress.
Loved it ! Keep up the crap work.

  • Zoe

I saw it last night. Urgh. What is WRONG with her? Is she mentally retarded or something?!

Move out Letterman! Your use-by date expired with noir. Letterman solely is respponsible for the interview going pearshaped. Nicole should sue! I for one would go witness that Letterman sabotaged the interview and deliberately attempted to undermine Nicole’s business success.
Letterman has demonstrated many times that he is a right-wing american who suppoorts those whom the corporation tells him to. Letterman sabotaged the interview. This one-eyed, ‘good ole’ boy, is propped up by some good writers, but he is floundering in the 21st century environment. Letterman is reknown as a control freak on the set when it comes to his image, and Stars have every right to expect that he will treat their careers with the same respect as he treats his own.
Remember the interview with Julia Roberts when he refused to discuss her film but constantly sought to discuss Madonna? Letterman is no longer entertaining. Give someone fresh and constructive a chance. Move out Letterman!

Nicole Kidman……? She is supposed to be playing a character in ‘Australia’ – the movie that is circa 1940’s. I didn’t know women had access to Botox treatment in those days?
If you live in Bowen – its Ok you can start selling those photos you have of her now – she’s back home in America.

as a new zealander, i was absolutely thrilled with kidman, because now the yanks can finally know what we nzers have always known, that you aussies are as thick as pea soup!

  • Dave

haha darren, don’t be bitter because NZ is a feeder country to the real deal across the water.

    @ Mike Liu

Have you actually watched the show. His clashes with Right-wingers [Bill O'Reilly for example] have been quite noteworthy and his constant ripping into of the republican agenda over the last 8 years has been very obvious.

He may be a control freak on set, but he has defied CBS and let’s all his videos be uploaded on YouTube and was the ONLY host/exec producer to negotiate with the WGA to work out a salary package. He consistently mocked those who opposed the WGA’s demands and let his head writer make it very clear in sketches/jokes.

No, I do not remember that Julia Roberts interview, but I remember tonnes of others where he actually let her go over into 3 segments – something usually only done with very high-profile guests and those he truly enjoys having on his show.

Nicole is just a bad interview

Give her a break…she just had a child…everybody knows..well anyone who understands womens hormones….being pregnant ..having a baby and there after for a while we become bain dead..its not our fault but natures…same goes for menopausal women…she will get her smarts back soon.

  • Caz

See what i mean? I’m pregnant and usually very articulate.
    I can’t even spell now!

  • Me

Wow Rant Rambler and Alan are opbviously just sheep copying what they read by that columnist. They should hook up with Darren cos everyone knows NZ’s love to violate sheep.

  • Dave from Gundigai

You have to be an Australian with a mind above footy and middle class activities to understand what was going on here. I found Nicole funny and endearing as she bravely tried to play her role as promoter of a movie she wishes she could just forget ever happened. She felt silly sitting there talking to Letterman who sense of humour is parochial and native to urban Americans. It was his inability to deal with someone as real and natural as Nicole Kidman that would have made Nicole’s embarrasment even worse than it already was.

  • Rosie

That wasn’t even that weird in my opinion. Get over it people.
