Massive Prop. 8 Protest Galvanizes Gays, Allies, Random Celebs
“NO MORE MR. NICE GAY,” read one of the many signs last night in Los Angeles as Defamer attended a huge anti-Prop. 8 rally that drew several thousand — then set them marching all over the city. (Your Defamer was also partial to another sign, referencing the easily-passed, animal rights-granting Prop. 2: “I Want What the Chickens Got!”) It was powerful, emotional stuff, and even more fireworks should erupt today at 2pm, when the crowd takes their fight to the Mormon temple on Santa Monica Blvd to protest the many millions the church sunk into passing the anti-gay Prop. 8. All this hate makes me so sad. The only news I’ve seen reported is on all the mean things gays are doing to the Mormons.
All I see is how hateful the gay people are–don’t religions have the right to protect all that they’ve sacrificed for?
If I understand the Christian and Mormon doctrine right, all these hateful gays are only proving their religions and prophecies true–remember what happened to Rome when this behavior was accepted, not to mention such a horrible destruction of Sodom and Gommorah. I mean, the very place where the word sodomy got its name was historically the most horribly destroyed city ever. I have a cousin who is gay. I never stopped loving him–but he stopped loving me. If you know what you’re doing is right, you don’t become hateful about it–when you become hateful you’re just proving that you’re trying to justify doing something you know in your heart is genuinely wrong. Did you see that article–well, there were actually two–about the two earthquakes that hit the Middle East after they passed their gay marraige law? Something else happened in a similar situation–one of the members of the parliament, and separately a Jewish religious leader–both concluded that “Gays cause Earthquakes”. We’re all just safer if we’re really just doing what we know in our hearts is right–even when its very hard to do.
Religions have every right to protect ideas and institutions related to them, but the passage of Prop 8 is a direct violation of the 14th Amendment – No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Please stress EQUAL protection. The 14th amendment is for the protection of the minority. It was also used to overturn the public vote AGAINST inter-racial marriages, and also for allowing African-Americans the right to vote.
I have a strong feeling that many gays will not be having traditional marriages in synagogues or mormon temples or many other places of worship. Why the ideas of a certain section of society should encroach on another is beyond comprehension. You’re against gay marriage? DON’T HAVE ONE!
Prop 8 will be overturned as it is unconstitutional. Prop 22 was a statute, ratified by 2/3s of Californian voters that was overturned by the Supreme Court and this will happen again with Prop 8 as any constitutional amendment needs more than 50% approval.
The reason that the protests have been directed at the Mormon Church, is that they pretty much bankrolled the Yes on 8 campaign. Funds raised at sermons were used to buy airtime and perpetuate lies to Californian voters.
And sorry please – what kind of a fruitcake of you? Anal sex as the reason for natural disasters?! What about the couples that don’t have anal sex? (Yes, I feel for them too). What about straight people that have anal sex? What about women? I wish I had such powers over the elements.
