1:20PM Jess McGuire | OH, I AM JUST ABOUT BURSTING WITH CINEMA-GOING EXCITEMENT! Baz Luhrmann’s much anticipated film Shtraya is ever so close to being played on big screens across the country – and as someone who forgot to see The House Bunny when it was released, I will not make the same mistake again. No longer will I miss out on cultural phenomenons due to absentmindedness and penny-pinching! Australia? It’s a date.
According to the press release, the Australian premiere of the film is going to be a massive countrywide party.
Today, Twentieth Century Fox Film Distributors announced that the Australian premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s epic Australia will take place on Tuesday 18th November in the film’s first shooting location, Sydney, with special screenings in shoot locations Darwin & Bowen on the same evening.
I hope the lovely lady who runs the Bowen pie shop (she was interviewed regularly on Red Symons’ 774 ABC breakfast radio show last year, and was absolutely delightful) gets a free ticket to the premiere. Don’t forget the little people, Baz – specifically the pie makers! More » Golden Plains Line Up Announced
12:10PM Jess McGuire | If you’re planning on heading to the Golden Plains music festival next March, you may like to find out which bands are playing – unless of course you just go for the “vibe” and “atmosphere”. Happily, we’re able to give you a few names now that organisers have made an announcement regarding the line up. Are you ready? More » ABC2’s News Breakfast Stealing Viewers From Sunrise And Today!
11:06AM Jess McGuire | Check out my positive spin! Yes, the brand spankin’ new ABC2 breakfast news program – cleverly titled News Breakfast – has launched, and the Sunrise and Today teams should be quaking in their boots, as the show is already stealing their viewers! Sure, only 8000 for now… but we’ve all gotta start somewhere, right?
What if they launched a live three-hour TV breakfast news show and nobody watched? It was a question the ABC2 News Breakfast team were digesting yesterday. Ratings showed only 8000 people nationally tuned in to watch the digital channel show.
According to OzTam figures (which are not to be questioned), absolutely no one in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth bothered to tune in. More » Jolie-Pitt Violence Primer Teaches Orphans The Difference Between ‘Wanted’ And Rwanda
9:50AM STV | The responsibility of raising a veritable petting zoo of exotic children would be burdensome for any parents, but to do so while toplining four or five studio pictures per year is just thankless. Especially when those movies are fraught with the kind of violence and distress saturating the work of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the latter of whom walks us through the delicate duty of parsing real brutality and war from the pop-culture pugilism of Mummy and Daddy’s films: More »Who Here ‘Viewed’ The Melbourne Cup?
9:28AM Jess McGuire | You see what I did there, huh? I am back after a fairly quiet first Tuesday in November (it’s a public holiday down here at Defamer Australia HQ!) and sad to say that I managed to lose $47 yesterday, but what price can you put on equine-related fun?
Bart Cummings’ Ferocious Eyebrows – and the man attached to them – trained winning horse Viewed, making this the 12th Melbourne Cup victory for the 80-year-old racing legend.
The Melbourne Cup has been run and won with the foreign invasion repelled for another year. And who better to do it than the master himself, the man of the magical twirling eyebrows, cup king Bart Cummings?

8:17AM STV | Hollywood PrivacyWatch UPDATE: Monica Lewinsky Spotted! Our tipster who earlier spied Intern Hall of Famer Monica Lewinsky waiting to vote outside the LA Tennis Club was just corroborated by another operative who preserved the moment in pictures. The tipster writes of delays pushing two hours, but let’s face it: Waiting all morning to cast her ballot is the least Lewinsky could do for the American political process. Literally. ‘Twilight’ Star Robert Pattinson Reveals Six-Week Hair-Washing Strike
8:10AM Kyle Buchanan | Twilight star Robert Pattinson is our kind of teen idol: the sort of guy who calls his chest hair “early pubes” and stumbles out of Crown Bar at 1:45 am, unshaven, bleary-eyed and slurring. Most young girls prefer their locker-room pinups to be clean and unthreatening, but Pattinson doesn’t quite fit that mold, and at an appearance last night in New York (where the actor was greeted with Beatles-worthy shrieking), he seemed determined to push his young fans’ tolerance of the scruffy, Silver Lake aesthetic as far as it would go: More »
