Kristy Hinze Is Getting Hitched!

Jim Clarke, the 64 year old billionaire founder of Netscape, and Kristy Hinze, the 28 year old model and host of Project Runway, have announced they’re getting married! Congratulations – although god knows what they see in each other.

Oh yes, thanks for reminding me.

After dating for nearly three years, Kristy Hinze, 28, the host of Project Runway Australia and granddaughter of the late Russ Hinze – Queensland’s original minister for everything – is set to walk down the aisle and marry the American billionaire Jim Clark, 64, the internet pioneer who founded Netscape.

Apparently love conquers all, even a 36-year age difference.

An excited Hinze emailed family and friends from London with the news on Wednesday. Her Sydney modelling agency, Vivian’s, said “she is happy for us to confirm the engagement” but offered no details.

The following quote from Kristy Hinze’s friend Jo Ferguson is rather telling if you ask me.

“The world is her oyster,” her close friend and bridesmaid-to-be Jo Ferguson said yesterday. “It’s really good news for her. They have been going out for a while now and she really loves him. She deserves this.”

I love how “she deserves this” sounds. It’s almost as though Jo’s really saying:

“She’s going to be hugely rich,” her close friend and bridesmaid-to-be Jo Ferguson said yesterday. “It’s really good news for her. She’s been having sex with him for a while now and she really was starting to worry she was never going to get a ring on her finger. She deserves this.”

But I don’t want to be a cynic. I am well aware that love can strike in the most unusual of places, therefore I will choose to believe that a 64 year old billionaire has truly found his soul mate in a 28 year old model.

Kristy talked about Jim back in March to a ladies magazine.

“I never thought I was going to date an older man when I first met him,” she told The Australian Women’s Weekly. “To me, it was different to hang out with someone with something to say that was so interesting and important and who was truly, incredibly intelligent. He’s handsome and has so much charisma – and he’s so funny.”

I can’t vouch for Jim Clark being funny and interesting and intelligent and important and charismatic, but I can say that as far as 64 year old billionaires go, I could probably find a way to “tap that”, despite the fact Jim looks a little too much like Kevin Rudd for my liking.
