Hey Australia, Meet A Future Serial Killer!

Alright, I admit it is not responsible for me to label a seven-year-old boy a potential serial killer and demand he be locked away forever. It’s wrong. But what do I care? I’m embracing mob mentality and hysteria these days.

A seven-year-old boy broke into a reptile farm and smiled as he fed 10 live reptiles, the farm’s main exhibits, to the resident crocodile. He also bludgeoned three lizards to death in their pens, The Northern Territory News reported. Police cannot charge the boy because of his age.

And smiled? I feel weird inside.

Security camera video footage shows every move of the youngster’s 35-minute rampage through the Alice Springs Reptile Centre just after 8am on Wednesday.

One CCTV image shows him with a big smile on his face as he watches the saltie splash around its pool as it attacks a northern blue tongue lizard.

Centre director Rex Neindorf said the behaviour was “disgusting”.

Forgetting the fact that this seven-year-old boy went on a “disgusting” killing spree and probably needs to have a hell of a lot of therapy until his murderous impulses get under control (or, you know, someone trains him up like Dexter and he becomes a lovable if not emotionless removalist of human garbage), dare I ask how a seven-year-old boy managed to break in to a facility containing a salt water crocodile? Who was doing security over the the Alice Springs Reptile Centre? The now deceased northern blue tongue lizard?

Aaaawww bless. Kids, they grow up so fast.

Seriously though, I hope this kid gets some counselling because THERE IS a link between animal cruelty and serial killers.

According to research, serial killers exhibit what is known as the ‘Triad of Warning Signs in Childhood.’1

    Indicators include:

    * Fire starting, invariably just for the thrill of destroying things

    * Cruelty to Animals: Most children can be cruel to animals, such as pulling the legs off of spiders, but future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers.

    * Bed wetting beyond the age when children normally grow out of such behaviour.

‘Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Andrew Cunanan, David ‘Son of Sam’ Berkowitz, and Albert ‘Boston Strangler’ DeSalvo were ALL cruel to animals before they started hurting people.’6 Subsequently, killer teenagers Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold (Columbine HS), and Kip Kinkel were also known for their past history of animal cruelty. In the study from of ‘The Care of pets within child abusing families,’ presented by DeViney & Lockwood, 88 percent of the homes were animal abuse had occurred, children were also abused.

The Northern Territory Government says it is urgently reviewing the care arrangements for a seven-year-old boy who broke into the Alice Springs Reptile Centre and killed more than a dozen animals on Wednesday morning.

Psychologist Chris Hamilton says such behaviour can indicate exposure to violence and disregard in the child’s own life.

“There is a correlation between injuring peers and injuring animals and subsequent criminal and violent behaviour as an adult and that’s why it is so important to have an extremely comprehensive and monitored intervention now,” he said.

If this happened here in the US, several child advocacy groups would immediately place the blame on violent video games, television, movies, and the animals that this monster killed… well the last part obviously isn’t true. I don’t know if it’s the same in Australia. I hope not.
Some people just have a hard time believing that some children out there are psychopaths and need to be placed under constant surveillance in a secure facility for the rest of their lives.

  • Jennifer

I live in the US and find this outrageous. I agree, some people do have a hard time believing that some kids are just psycopaths. This kid probably comes from a very disfunctional family where he sees abuse going on or is abused himself. I hope the zoo sues the hell out of his parents. Can the courts there make him get psychiatric help? Where did this kid live and didn’t the parents realize he was missing for some time? He is only 7! There are so many little future serial killers out there who have no remorse who kill and abuse animals. This kid should be locked up in a psych ward for the rest of his life. What will it take…for him to move on to babies and other children? I am sure we will be reading about this pathetic psycho in the news in a few years again.

RC, your claims are false. Try reading some recent peer-reviewed journal articles rather than just searching Google before you make such broad-sweeping and inaccurate statements.

  • RC

Zoe, try enlightening us all and actually quote recent peer reviewed journal articles, rather than pretending to be academic while not actually providing academic insight.

For your information I was merely responding in the spirit of the heading “Hey Australia, Meet A Future Serial Killer”. When I saw the heading and read the story I immediately thought of the supposed link between serial killers and animal cruelty. So yes, I quickly Googled to see if I’d remembered right, if there was such a link.

Like most comments on blogs my comment was merely echoing my immediate thoughts about the subject. My comment wasn’t meant as some definitive and well researched opinion.

There’s nothing wrong with Googling for articles. If I wanted to I COULD use Google to find contrary expert and peer review. If I found such information I’d post it in the comments and not make short and useless statements like yourself.

Before you knock Googling, may I suggest you search for “animal cruelty” and “serial killers”. In just the first 50 relevant results you’ll find that there’s an OVERWHELMING amount of links to articles and books that quote experts who say there’s a link (not necessarily cause and effect) between animal cruelty and cruelty to people.

Even on Google Scholar the first ten search results link to articles that say there may be some sort of link (again, not cause and effect) between (and you can search these terms) ” “animal abuse” and violence.

Try Google Scholar. It searches for scholarly literature. You can search for peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, and universities.
    http://scholar.google.com

I’d have to look at hundreds web links on several search engines to find contrary expert opinion. You obviously know what’s out there in recent peer reviewed journal articles, so please enlighten us.

Regardless of what recent peer reviewed journal articles may say, I’d be seriously worried and ask some serious questions about my son, myself, or my family if my son was found breaking into zoos, and systematically and happily, without remorse, torturing and killing animals.

So Zoe, in the spirit of Defamer, please provide a comment that is “interesting, substantial and/or highly amusing”. Apologies if if my comments have failed in all three.

I personally think this seven-year-old boy is mentally challenged and what makes it worse is that he is pure evil; if I was his parent, I will take him to a church and get an exorcism done.
If he gets away with murdering animals at the age of 7years old finding pleasure and amusement, what are we teaching him/others, what as he learnt?

I hold the Australian authorities responsible for this little devils future and what he makes of himself when grows older.

Deep down I know there is a childlike in him that’s crying for help but it will be too late, because we as society always rectify the situation in hand instead of acknowledging its worth.

This boy needs a lot of help and healthy guidance and for those that do not see it will regret it.

If a seven year old is commiting heinous acts of any kind we cannot blame the child. Where were his parents, not just on that night but where were they in general? My son is two, he is currently in the process of learning right from wrong, and he now knows that if he hits me or our pets, intentionally or by accident, he needs to apologise. He says “sorry” and offers a hug. He does this because that’s what he’s being taught. Loving parents grow loving children.

I was actually just curious about how many serial killers there are in Australia, after watching a film based on a true story. The fact remains we only know those that have been caught, How many missing people in Australia, how many have died at the hands of serial killers,The fact is we dont know and that is the scariest most terrifying thought of all. My children are young and in one way i dont actually want to see them grow up and leave home. Im afraid of what people they may come across and while they are with me i can still try and protect them always, How many parents feel the same. Im guessing Im not the only one. Although we fear what should never happen we still must live But be very aware and dont put our heads in the sand. So if we ever get the fortunate insight into what might happen with a child if left to his own divices we should take it seriously enough to try and prevent this child of ever becoming a monster and do it now through therepy and whatever else it may take.

Serial murderers are born with a genetic disposition to thrill kill, and yes, many apprehended murderers began early in life by torturing and killing animals. This 7 year old should be monitored closely by psychiatrists, as serial killers do not emotionally develop further than that of a young toddler. They do not know remorse, love or understanding for their victims pain. If a 7 year old can heartlessly conduct himself/herself to slay animals in such a blood thirsty manner, what are they capable of in their teens and beyond?
