Eddie McGuire Puts His Money For Nothing To Good Use
Big ups to Uncle Eddie! It would appear “Channel Nine’s most expensive star” has put all that money he earned for doing diddily squat last year to wonderful use – purchasing a freakishly high priced piece of Melbourne real estate
Nine Network TV star and Collingwood AFL president Eddie McGuire has spent $11 million on a sprawling new Toorak mansion.
It is a world away from McGuire’s humble “Broady boy” roots in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and has a swimming pool and tennis court.
Ever the dealmaker, McGuire is believed to have negotiated the purchase directly with its owner, businessman Ian Hicks. McGuire, who joined the Channel 10 newsroom 26 years ago in a borrowed suit, secretly ferreted out the deal.
By the way, I very much enjoy the visual picture of Eddie McGuire behaving like a ferret in order to gain his heart’s desire.
McGuire and his family are expected to sell their existing Toorak house and an adjoining property in Dunraven Ave.
Agents said McGuire’s existing house, which was designed by architect Wayne Gillespie and rebuilt after a fire in 2001, would be worth more than $3 million and the property next door more than $2.5 million.
You know, if Eddie’s going to keep flinging his money around like it’s going out of style, then can he please consider funding the Rose Porteous musical like we asked?
Also: has Eddie actually ever considered moving to Collingwood? I think he’d love it. Sure, he’d get hassled when trying to walk into the Safeways on Smith Street, but don’t we all?
