Australian Woman Plans On Smoking Kurt Cobain’s Ashes… But Is It Art?

kurtspliff.jpgWonderful news, proud patriotic Australians! Yet another expat is kicking some important goals overseas. In this case, it’s artist Natascha Stellmach, who is apparently planning on smoking the ashes of Kurt Cobain in a joint to cap off a successful exhibition.

I know, I know – it sounds a little weird. But it’s art! It’s cool if art’s weird! If you don’t understand it, or if you think it’s gone too far, then you’re just a square, maaaaaaan.

An Australian artist wants to smoke the stolen ashes of Kurt Cobain as part of an exhibition she claims will set the late Nirvana singer “free”.

Your plan intrigues me, Natascha. Please, continue…

The website of music magazine NME reported Natascha Stellmach claimed she would smoke the ashes in a joint to end her Set Me Free exhibition at Berlin’s Wagner + Partner museum. It is scheduled to take place on October 11.

Perhaps at this very moment, some of you are getting a whiff of ‘publicity stunt” floating through the air. Thankfully I am not one of you. All I can smell is art, meaning, and the charred remains of a grunge god being toked.

Hang on a second! How did Natascha get Kurt Cobain’s ashes anyway?! Even Courtney Love can’t hold onto them! Happily, Natascha is able to explain this with impressive ease.

In a statement, Stellmech claimed she had “acquired” the ashes, but wouldn’t elaborate on how. “(It’s) kind of magic. They came to me. And I am setting him free,” she told Artworld magazine.

Oh, magic. Cool! Art is the best!
