Viewers Oddly Unreceptive To The Cavalcade Of Cringe That Is ‘Taken Out’
Who would’ve thunk that a gobsmackingly awful parade of hilarious awfulness such as Ten’s James Kerley-hosted Taken Out (sample dialogue: Bloke: “I’m a carpenter” Chick: “A what?” Bloke: “A carpenter” Chick: “Like… making carpets?” Bloke: “…”), a curious melding of Perfect Match, Elimi-Date and, er, the Roman Coliseum, wouldn’t actually hook in the viewers and keep them pressed to the television? Well, it appears that we are all tiring of Ten’s daily dating show, as the ratings slide from “okay” into “average” into “better start looking for other work, Kerley” territory.
Hosted by James Kerley, Ten had high hopes for the program, which last night only managed to draw in a little over 500,000 viewers to come in 30th position.
There is speculation the show could be axed but Ten’s head of corporate communications Jeannette McLoughlin today said production was continuing. “The move to 6pm is prime time, up against news on Seven and Nine,” Ms McLoughlin said.“While that’s a very competitive slot, and clearly it’s early days, Taken Out is a fun and light alternative for viewers, and we believe it will do well there.
“In relation to speculation about its future, production continues. The show will run its full season.”
Wow, 30th! Those are the sorts of ratings results that aren’t even cause for champagne-popping at SBS anymore. In truth, the few “highlights” I’ve watched have fallen in that depressing grey area between great and awful, existing instead in some sort of neither here nor there limbo. What do you think of the show?

This show is just awful! It’s embarrassing for all involved.
I saw the previews, and only somewhat ‘get’ the show, but – they all hated the guy with wheelie shoes, right? Because he looked like the only way he could scream WANKER more was if he had it shaved into his facial hair.
And I have a soft spot for Kerley. Cash Cab shouldn’t work, really, but he definitely makes it more enjoyable.
I think it’s shit that 10 have put this where their only redeemable program (old simpsons episodes) used to be.
Big brother didn’t make it, lets hope 10 decide to make another smart move this year.
This show is awful, Man O Man was alot better at least they got pushed into the pool. The show has poor dialogue and half the time it seem that noone know what they are doing. Most of the people are not average looking guys and girls and I lasted about 2 shows and yelled for my partner to see how bad this show really is. Where do they get these people? sorry but this is one of the worse telvision shows on tv CHANNEL TEN CMON WHAT ARE YOU THINKING
I’ve only recently discovered the genius that is Taken Out because they’re playing the old episodes on V at the moment, hence also discovering this page so well after the fact. I’m disappointed there are only 19 episodes. The show suits Channel V way more than it would have suited Channel Ten (it’s the type of rubbish you expect to find) and I think they should resurrect it.
Anyway, I’m surprised there aren’t more lovers of this trashy glorious piece of shit here. Other dating shows rear their ugly heads, jam packed full of ugly heads, time and time again and they’re no less pathetic. It’s just too fun watching these poor pathetic.. personal trainers.. search for true love in the worst possible place, offering their lives to the scrutiny of the worst possible strangers. There are reasons most of them were single. There seem to have been a surprising amount of people who were into ‘fitness’, so in reply to Ben, I suspect they got them at gyms, and they got them because they looked lonely and desparate, unlike we lucky partnered folk, and were trying to increase their chances of attracting a suitable mate by concentrating on improving their muscle tone (spew), rather than growing personalities .. But, that little spew there? There lies the repulsive appeal of this program. If Sandra was embarassed for them she’s too kind. Or something. Also I doubt there are many popular game shows that owe their sucess to excellent dialogue..
And yes, I found this because I googled James Kerley. He’s a little bit hot, at least compared to the contestants. The only one I’d have Taken Out.
