Australian Idol Round-Up: For Once, The Nation Gets It Right!

Bye-Tom.jpgRemember, back in the olden times of Australian Idol, when the better contestants would be sent packing, while the cute but tuneless teens’ choices overstayed their welcome by weeks? Now, I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think we may have reached a point where Australian Idol voters have actually grown a clue or two: to wit, it’s time to go, Tom Williams! Yes, the tone-deaf teen whose voice may not have actually broken yet will be spared from Matt Corby-esque women’s-nightie-and-fedora wardrobe choices in future episodes, as he’s been sent packing, no doubt with a bumper pack of Kleenex in hand:

For the second week in a row a teenager left Australian Idol in tears with 16-year-old Tom Williams being shown the door last night.

Aww, I almost feel bad for the little guy!

“It was kind of tough it was hard to sync in with the group ‘cos I always felt like I was the little brother visiting the idols at the idol house I never felt like I was part of the group,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.

And now I really do feel bad for him. Time to bump up that minimum age, Idol producers?

As for who’ll go next week, Sportsbet has Teale “JPEG” Jakubenko as most likely, with Wes Carr, Chrislyn Hamilton and Mark Spano (respectively) as the likely Final 3 (with Carr to win).

As for the little guy himself, at least Tom can take refuge in the welcoming embrace of the “fan messages” on the official Idol site:

tom I LOVE YOU i no it sounds kinda scary but u r sooo cute i wish u were still in da comp cause u were like da best and dont worry about wat the judges said u were great and u sung ma fav eightys song uptowngirl :)
love from SeBoBeBo or georgia
ps never cut your hair

Now that’s what I call comforting.

All I can say is yaaaaayyy! Now Idol is much less cringe-worthy. Hope Sophie pulls through for a little longer…

Good article. 16 is just too young for that kind of exposure. It’s good he’s gone but wtf is up with the idol producers letting a 16 year old kid who can barely sing into the competition? He’ll be forgotten in 6 months unless he surfaces on Neighbours or some other lame channel 10 thing

Yeah he wasn’t the best singer on Idol, but that doesn’t mean he was tone deaf! He’s 16, give him a break!

He tried his best, but there’s obviously better, more experienced singers in the show.

It’s a bonus to be good looking on Idol because more girls will vote for you! It’s not his fault. LAY OFF HIM for a minute. Jesus Christ.
