What Will The Young Divas Do Now That Paulini Has Left?
It’s taken a good couple of days for the news of Paulini’s exit from superladygroup the Young Divas to really sink in. At first, I think I was in denial. This couldn’t actually be happening, surely? Sadly, yes.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s what the papers had to say.
When the Young Divas recorded their last track, Turn Me Loose, sounds like singer Paulini Curuenavuli took lyrics literally.
A founding member of the Australian Idol spin-off sister act, Curuenavuli’s exit follows in the footsteps of Ricki-Lee Coulter and more recently Jessica Mauboy, who also left the girl band to pursue solo careers.
Ricki-Lee ditching them for a moderately successful solo career, I can understand. But Jessica Mauboy? I didn’t even know Jessica Mauboy had left the Young Divas. Obviously her glittering turn singing the theme tune to a hair product commercial led to some big offers. And amusingly, a Facebook tribute group called “‘Do What You Do, Say What You Say”: Appreciators Of The Vast Mauboy Oeuvre”
But Paulini leaving the Divas is a worry. How on earth will Emily Williams and Kate DeAraugo carry on adding their amyl touch to songs of yesteryear? They may not even need to worry about that, as management seem to be planning a line up change.
Divas’ manager David Champion was upbeat saying: “The spirit of the Young Divas will live on in a new incarnation with a third album once the new line-up is finalised. Think of the Young Divas not so much as an act but a finishing school for future superstars.”
And that, folks, is what cheered me up. Also, watching Idol last night and realising at least two of the girl contestants will have a future in music belting out disco tunes to The Gays regardless of how far they get in the competition. Praise be!

The girl should’ve left months ago (should never have been involved actually), although I understand she was contractually stuck until Sony/BMG gave up on the whole cloned-PCD idea and finally let her out. Poor thing. Bet she’s relieved. And I didnt know dear little tyke Mauboy had left either.
