Unearthed Britney Spears Concert Footage Demonstrates The Value Of Lip-Syncing
Posted by Mark Graham at 8:20 AM on August 22, 2008
· You know how everyone used to complain that Britney Spears lip-synced her way through all of her concerts? Well, after seeing this video that isolates Britney's vocals during her "Live From Las Vegas" show, we're pretty sure you'll be thankful that backing tracks exist. [Funny Or Die via Buzzfeed]
· We know that we're supposed to bow at the feet of Radiohead because, well, everyone bows at the feet of Radiohead. But we can't help but concur with Hold Steady guitarist Tad Kubler's recent comments about the band: "I think they've lost the plot. I like them as a rock band, all the buttons and sequencing and stuff like that I don't really care for. I'm a fan of rock music, and what they're doing now I don't think is very good." [Vulture]
· We've been thinking a lot about Sharon Stone ever since we revealed her new twentysomething boyfriend yesterday. While her film career is stalled, we think we spotted a reality show opportunity that would be a perfect fit for her brand of crazy: Vh1's Cougar Camp. [NY Post]
· This headline has us thankful all of the film critics haven't been killed off yet: "Hamlet 2: The First One Was Better." [Time]
· Most of our favourite movies of the '80s require a healthy suspension of disbelief to enjoy. Teen Wolf was one of those films. But now, thanks to the comedy troupe Summer Of Tears, we're not sure we're ever going to be able to watch it again without contemplating how none of the characters raised an eyebrow when the bestiality angle came into play. Although I cannot claim knowledge as to the merits (or lack thereof) of Hold Steady, kudos to Kubler for having the courage to speak the unspeakable (and to Mark Graham for spreading the word): the more popular Radiohead grows, the less frequently can what they do really be described as "music".

Someone did that to some Linda McCartney vocals and it took me twenty years to get that screeching out of my head. Thanks so, so very much for that trip down memory lane.

@Molly McAleer: Yes, believe it or not, outside of West Hollywood and Santa Monica, in small rural enclaves across the country, covens of overweight women meet secretly under cover of darkness to perform an exotic communal ritual known as aerobics. Some even go further, tempting the wrath of god, by performing their forbidden ceremonies in large pools of water.
@Factotum-Vergudo: Bite me.

Okay. I went to youtube and saw a video of this "hold steady" from letterman. They suck and sound like they some faux punk elvis costello wannabe's from 1987. Not that there is anything wrong with 1987 or elvis costello. How did I know they where from Brooklyn? damn i'm good. The lead singer is also very ugly. I still love Radiohead. They are Gods.

@WGARefugee: "Aerobics Class" LMAO. WTF is Aerobics? Is that a new line of pens by BIC? Is that the new pen Oprah had on today on her Fave things? "AeroBics" HAHAHAH

@WGARefugee: I dunno, like... 20 years? Who goes to aerobics? Do they still even offer those classes?

Thanks for that insightful recording of Spears - I can hear scores of cultural studies majors running to their computers to write 5,000-word essays about What It Means To Society.

What the difference between Britney Spears and person muttering lyrics to herself next to you in aerobics class?

@Dr. Spaceman, Esq.: What are you trying to do with such a suggestion? Reduce Radiohead's fan base by two thirds?

People, that wasn't lip-syncing...the mike was attached to her vagina. It was twat-syncing and damn good twat-syncing.
Granted it was never on key but it's been on everything else!

@LostMythos: well since no one has heard of them, they must suck right? We all know that a musician's talent is based on how many romantic comedies they've done soundtracks for (plus the occasional live show on MTV spring break).

I love it when rock luddites get moody about sounds that aren't created on a strict 1947 set up. it's not "real" music if you aren't an asshole about it because you've spent seven years honing your mediocre skills and arguing with family about what you're doing with your life.
I have a local musical illusion reinforcement (guitar) center nearby. it's quite taxing.

@Huge Tracts of Land: too right, you are! i didn't need this audio clip to tell me BS can't sing, BUT the point is, if you know you're lip-synching, do you really need to even try to sing on key? or sing at all, for that matter . .

This is exactly why the music industry is in a bad state, because the mainstream music is all full of talentless pop tarts just like Britney Spears that go on image and sexual promiscuity alone. Vocal talent takes a back seat to the millions invested in clever marketing and product placements in their music videos!
