Scar-Jo Blames Her Ladyparts For Spurring Obama Email Frenzy
Posted by Defamer Hollywood at 2:20 AM on August 7, 2008
Now that Scarlett Johansson is finally hitting the road to stump for the upcoming Vicky Cristina Barcelona, reporters have seized on the opportunity to ask her about the important man in her life. No, not her fiancĂ© Ryan Reynolds — we're talking about presidential candidate/father figure Barack Obama. You may recall how the actress made headlines back in June for discussing her email relationship with Obama, a sexy media fantasy that titillated reporters before the Obama campaign itself debunked it. Now, Johansson is claiming that the whole affair got too much attention because of the media's "extreme sexism":
"I kept thinking to myself, 'God, if this was just, like, Kal Penn or George Clooney, or any of the other [Obama] surrogates or supporters ... there wouldn't be [any] question about it," the actress, 23, tells the Associated Press. "Nobody would even talk about it."
..."I was merely trying to express my delight at Obama's commitment in his campaign in every aspect, and his interest and his support [in] his surrogates, and his staff and his fellows, and how wonderful and refreshing that is," she says. "And it was manipulated into such an unfortunate media frenzy of kind of a non-story."
Au contraire, Scar-Jo! We here at Defamer can promise you that if Kal Penn or George Clooney would simply follow your lead and pose provocatively in an open cardigan (see above), we'd mock up a Photoshop before you could even say, "si se puede." Or was that your clone?

Why is it that I'm always stuck behind my desk when you run that photograph?

No, not SEXism, RAC(E)ism. He's not even President yet, and he's trying to steal all our white women. I believe that is the unstated statement, I being a black woman.

See, it's also true that if it were Jena Malone or Thora Birch or some other young woman who doesn't present herself half-naked in every photograph, there would have less of a media frenzy. ScarJo has cultivated an image for herself that has definitely paid dividends but is also going to be difficult to shake.

She's a triple threat-- she can't act, she can't sing, and she isn't very bright.

It is damn near impossible to read and stare at her boobs at the same time. But I did it. Bond, James Bond.

@Shumina: ScarJo presuming that she is somehow representative of all women brings out the scolding women's studies minor in me, is all. On with the snark!

My memory might be failing me, but I don't recall Kal Penn or George Clooney saying in their statements of support that they were, like, totally in love with Obama, like our barely-cardiganed friend up there has. Had they, too, expressed themselves like a giddy 13 year-old girl writing in her diary, they might have been called out as well.

...That was from "Allure..." which always does sex-ed up spreads of their female starlets (with the exception of Ellen Degeneres)...wtf do Defamer editors think, that was taken for a movie premiere?
Or is she fair game for this bullshit b/c she had such a photo taken...ever?
Guess so.
Can't believe I've been moved to defend Scar Jo, whom I otherwise don't give a shit about (nice tits, though...pretty girl.)
