Remember An Innocent Time, When Children Were Children And Meg Ryan Loved Russell Crowe

Meg Ryan.jpgIn this fast-paced world we live in, sometimes celebrity love affairs that once burned bright are relegated to the scrap heap of entertainment industry gossip, only to pop up again on VH1 specials in the future, or in “hey, remember me?”-style women’s magazine interviews, to remind us that – for example – there was once a time when we thought that “Our” Russell Crowe was going to be IN LUV 4 LYFE with one Meg Ryan. Well, thank you, Meg, for reminding us, and for explaining why things didn’t work out with Fightin’ Russell.

“Russell was incredibly gracious to me during a really hard time and in the aftermath.”

“I empowered myself by not staying in the thing with Russell. I felt it was going to be repeating some similar patterns that I’d just gotten out of and it was a drag because I was crazy about him.”

Ha, you hear that, Russ? It was a drag to be crazy about you. Thank you, once again, Meg. You may now return to relative fish-lipped obscurity.

Why are you reporting on comments she’s made years ago? She’s not the one dredging these old quotes up again, the UK media is.

The only thing Ryan has said lately about this (those -are- old quotes) is that she was overwhelmed by the media backlash that came out of their affair, while reiterating her marriage to Quaid was for all intents already over. The end result was that she ended up being less famous, which she has enjoyed after so much time in the spotlight. She doesn’t acknowledge that her poor choices in terms of roles post-”Proof of Life” probably had more to do with her star wattage getting dimmer, but she’s famously defensive about her career choices. I see “The Women” doing moderately well, perhaps it will keep her in the limelight a little – I see no harm in that!
