Rejoice! Shia's Pinkie Spared!
Posted by Seth at 4:30 AM on August 8, 2008
We have wonderful news regarding Shia's pinkie! (Say those last two words three times fast. It's fun.) Contrary to Star magazine's distressing report, which described a tiny, ax-wielding medieval executioner stationed over the star's left hand just waiting for the word, it turns out he'll be able to keep all ten of his fingers after all. The LAT e-mailed Shia's rep Melissa Kates for confirmation.
She in turn responded with two little words—"Totally untrue"—that totally puts him back in the running for that Billy Joel biopic project. (Not to mention all the water he'll be able to wiggle out of his ear after he goes swimming! There's so many uses for a pinkie—and Shia can take advantage of them all!)

He was almost "Uneven Stevens." Good to hear, though.

I'm relieved to hear that they won't have to digitally alter the film in any way.

Aws, and yet how much cooler if he had gotten a tiny hook where his pinkie would be.

I'm confused...isn't that the said pinkie, flappin' in the breeze in that pic? Wouldn't the docs actually wrap up the said digit, say, in the cast?

Phew!
Without having to think about CGI-ing a tenth digit into Transformers 2, Michael Bay can finally focus on CGI-ing in a plot.

Did he really need to rip that sleeve off? Jersey knit is quite stretchy, and that cast is small. I call gratuitous shirt ripping.

@Seth: Oh, I respect them just fine. A little symmetry is all I'm after-- why not rip off the other one, too, and give us what we really want?

Although Melissa Kates is nothing more than a semi-well-paid spokes-liar, the fact that the veracity of The Star is essentially nonexistent makes me feel that Shia's pinkie will live on.
However, all the postings about the non-bandaging of the pinky are missing a point - if the left pinky was really in danger, it would be because of an infection in the bone (which would not be visible). With circulation to the middle fingers screwed up by the damage caused in the wreck, blood flow (which spreads this kind of infection) would have concentrated in one of the the extremities that was intact.
But again, the Star story smacks of being made up. If there really was this kind of danger of amputation (needed to keep a virulent infection from spreading to the damaged fingers), it would NOT have been left to Shia himself to make the call to "the production company".

I just fell asleep reading Bonk's post.
In short, Shia's keeping the pinkie, yes?

He's got his work cut out for him if he uses his left hand to...well, you know.

So, no more lunch time circle jerks at Sony for a while I'm guessing.
