Josh Brolin's 'W' Impression: Erotically Accurate or Sub-'SNL'?
Posted by Defamer Hollywood at 5:40 AM on August 21, 2008
Considering how the trailer for Oliver Stone's W. focused rather heavily on James Cromwell and Louis Armstrong, we're happy to bring you this new behind-the-scenes clip (courtesy of Access Hollywood), which offers the first extended glimpse of Josh Brolin doing his best impression of The Decider. It's the impersonation that's split the Defamer offices in half, with some calling it uncannily accurate (and uncomfortably erotic), and others finding Brolin miscast and not ready for prime time. We'll let you (and Elisabeth Hasselbeck!) be the judge, though keep in mind this is all B-roll; once Oliver Stone finally makes use of that green screen to take Bush on a kaleidoscopic journey through the jungles of Vietnam to the tune of "Riders on the Storm," perhaps we'll have the context we need to truly appreciate Brolin's performance. Catch the performance in all its glory after the jump.

@Huge Tracts of Land: He'd look my like Bush with extra sun damage (or rosacea...somehow if it IS rosacea I see on Bush's stupid fucking face when hes addressing the networks, that'll humanize him a touch) and squintier, beadier eyes.
And lower hair-to-forehead ratio.

Why, he's a more believable monster than the actual Monster.

I think it TOTALLY sounds like him. But all the makeup in the world can't make him more chimp-like. Well, chimp makeup would I guess, but this isn't a remake of Planet of the Apes.

Speaking as a scientist, it's 100,000 times better than any impression that has ever been done on SNL.

He certainly has the voice and fake sincerety down.

Josh nailed W's voice, but his hair is way too long and there needs to be a sense that he's delivering a toast at an all-night keg party.
I assume that Stone will throw in a little "Natural Born Killers" psychedelics in the green screen such as strobes, a camera riding on top of a running goat, flames, a blooming flower, a moving train, and a grinning Bush covered in blood.

I don't need a spoiler alert to know how this movie ends.

His voice sounds too sophisticated and smooth. And not enough Texas accent.

@mothrafairy: HA! Good stuff. Brolin's best role is still in Thrashin' tho.

@Juancho: Expect a poetic conclusion where Bush stares at a pile of cocaine in the Oval Office while Obama's guerilla fighters surround the White House.

obviously Pres. Bush is a poor speaker, but Brolin sounds way too much like he's trying to be comedic. i mean c'mon does he really need to exaggerate the Texas accent that we all know and hate.

@kookla: just as long as it's not with an invasion of Iran, I'm good.

He's too young to play Bush, but good imitation though.
What he can't duplicate is coming across as stupid, ignorant and not interested in anything other than what Jesus might think of him. I think it was Bill Maher who said it best: "Bush loves Jesus, but would Jesus love Bush?"

He's just too good looking to be dubya. It's kind of like when Vince Vaughan played Norman Bates in that Psycho remake. You're not supposed to want to hit it when it's Norman Bates or President Bush.

as a native texan, i think he's doing a pretty good job - especially since bush Isn't a real texan - he moved here and lives in a fantasy land of actually thinking he IS texan...perhaps tommy lee jones could be sub/dubbed in as the voice.
i'm looking forward to this movie though

He looks an awful lot like his dad at moments.
Brolin, not Bush.

He just looks really weird in the role. He sounds like him but I get such a "this is a spoof or satire of the white house" vibe instead of something serious.

Y'know what I find myself wondering... What does Bush Sr. think of the way his son is taken so lightly? 'W' may likely go down as one of the worst presidents that the US has ever seen. Maybe not THE worst... but certainly one of them, I would think.
I find myself wondering what his parents think about his presidency and what they think of the way he's so consistantly and constantly mocked and regarded as both stupid and incompetent.
Makes mommy and daddy proud!

I've always thought Josh Brolin was hot, and not just because he's a dead ringer for my first husband. Oliver Stone has just ruined that whole thing for me.
Damn you, Oliver. Damn you.
