Jane Fonda Teaches Heidi Montag How to Rock a Leotard

Tuesday's unnerving visit to the set of Sweatin' Your 15 Minutes Away, with Heidi Montag was accompanied by an even more debilitating ebb of confidence in popular culture to ever make us smile again. So imagine the overwhelming (if perhaps coincidental) sense of joy that came along with revisiting Jane Fonda's early-'80s workout-video heyday — a brain-exploding, pre-ironic throwback to an era when only two-time Oscar winners were entitled to such garish Lycra supremacy. Sam Sparro's anthem "Black and Gold" provides the mid-tempo counterpoint, the entirety of which can be observed at Vimeo; our brains are full. Grateful, but full. And does she ever hit the spot. Thought this was Madonna's "Hung Up" video until I saw that it's Jane Fonda in the purple leotard. Nice boy-girl-boy sandwich near the end.

After a workout like that, I would definitely need a cold shower!

For the first 30 seconds, I thought I was watching either an 80s porno or the world's worst contemporary dance routine.
Wasn't Jane fonda really anorexic when she made these vids? I haz a sad.

@raincoaster: My therapy senses are tingling. Should not make workout tapes when recovering from ED.
She sure is bendy tho!

@psych101: No, she was recovered from bulimia, which she'd had during her ingenue heyday.
I still have all of those tapes. I think the only one I don't have is the prenatal one. But you know what? Of all the 80's workout tapes, Cher's is the funniest.

Can I get these tapes on DVD? Also, does anyone remember a workout show with like three brunettes on a platform and the camera would rotate around them while they aerobicized? Does anyone remember what that show was called? I'd like to track it down.

Heidi Montag's new video makes Jane Fonda Workout tapes look like they were directed by Stanley fucking Kubrick.
