Good To See The Courier Mail Are On The Pulse

Last week we alerted you to Everett True’s Guardian-enabled whining about how much Australia’s music press sucks and blah blah Silverchair blah, and you reacted accordingly (”I’m surprised he’s still kicking” – Born D). Well, the trickle down effect has finally made it to the offices of the Courier Mail some five days later, where all sorts of outrage and indignation is being thrown about:

Queensland’s music press has hit back, with one editor of a local music newspaper dismissing the British music guru as “irrelevent”.

“It’s a really poor piece of journalism from a music writer who once had relevance and influence, but now he’s living in Australia, he doesn’t really have the knowledge or experience of the local industry to back up his opinions,” said the industry source.

“It’s just a shame he gets to hide under the masthead of The Guardian, which gives him credence where none is due.”

Music industry analyst Rob Collings has also dismissed the blog as “nonsense” and has taken a swipe back at the British press, which he claims is overly critical. “I think there are parts of the British press that seem to enjoy denigrating their subjects,” he said.

Ha! I love the fact that they’ve found “industry sources” to cry foul about the column. But the funniest bit about the whole thing (apart from the sook-factor-1000 headline: “Everett True says Silverchair, The Vines ‘musical abominations’”) is this highlight from the comments:

good 1 m8 how about england produce a few more kylie’s and rick astley”s to claim best music nation.

Ohh, “maca of reality land”, if only you knew you’d just Rickrolled yourself.

The SMH acknowledge the fact that True is perhaps best known for introducing Kurt and Courtney; and now many ears later he has relocated and needs to re-establish himself as a person of interest. Attacking some of our best loved bands may will bring him to the attention of Australian audiences but certainly won’t endear him to any one of the longer term. His tactic, while well thought out is badly aimed. Australians are notoriously one-eyed when it comes to idol worship, and equally one eyed when it comes to tearing those same idols down. True is only going to suffer the fate off being torn down, and living in Brisbane.

One of the street press in Brisbane actually interviewed him to ask him about his comments. He didn’t have a great idea of what he was doing – didn’t even know all the mags (including the one who was interviewing him).

I am a really positive person and want to be known for making a dif to society. I am just a bit gob smakced as to the fac that Doctors chose their career for the benefit of other peoples health and well being. Please tell my why it is that Doctors seem to treat their staff in such a controlling manner?
