Bill O'Reilly Devours Conscience-Stricken Movie Blogger
Posted by STV at 10:10 AM on August 9, 2008
Jon Voight's recent toe-dip into the murky pool of political commentary attracted more than a few piranhas, the hungriest of whom may have been Hollywood Elsewhere's Jeffrey Wells. And after a July 29 blog item suggested freezing Voight's career as payback for his public condemnation of Barack Obama ("If I were a producer and I had to make a casting decision about hiring Voight or some older actor who hadn't pissed me off with an idiotic Washington Times op-ed piece, I might very well say to myself, 'Voight? Let him eat cake'"), Bill O'Reilly came a-calling last night with a theory about a new Hollywood blacklist against conservatives. While we (and Wells himself, apparently) had hoped for a more bloodthirsty offensive from Wells, we're endlessly engrossed by his session on Dr. O'Reilly's couch, elucidating the vengeful feelings inherent to angry industry bloggers everywhere. Seriously, Bill, this is nothing — wait until Oscar season. [Fox News]

Why is Bill beating up on a tired Jimmy Page?

We'll gladly work with wife beaters, drug addicts, drunk drivers who kill, gangsters and gangstas, pedophiles, and call girls as long as they can get our films greenlit. But God forbid someone express their 1st Amendment rights, we'll spend untold hours wishing rectal ebola-cancer on them. Frankly, I think Voight's got a screw loose (and don't get me started on O'Reilly) but the day I look to Jeffrey Wells and his merkin chapeau for casting advice is the day I get a pixie haircut and start worrying about what other people think of me.

Who can forget the reports of Jeff Wells begging 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold for naked on-set pics of Vinessa Shaw's "flat-out, boob-baring" scenes: [nymag.com]

Wait, wait, wait...
You'll blackball Voight for his Obama comments,
but not for sexually abusing his own daughter and unleashing "Angelina" on the world?
Riiight.

Voight gave indication he's not on the team politics-wise, so that means he must be a prick. That's the way things are these days. Conservatives hate liberals, liberals hate conservatives, and the large middle ground often gets tired of the hatred and tunes the whole thing out. Hollywood doesn't mind pricks, as long as they're OUR pricks.
I like when people can take a position on these things, and somehow, not hate those that disagree, even if the disagreement gets emotional. It's not us versus them, it's us just happening to have a different spin on things.
@Little Mintz Sunshine: Excellent comment.

@Pay_Me_Or_Pay_Me_No_Attention: Whoa, waitaminute...you said Voight sexually abused Angelina Jolie? Are you serious? Where'd you find this out?
This is one hell of an allegation.

"Sometimes you say stuff and bad things happen." (Snore.) The way their dialog petered out was a notable example of what happens when a guest doesn't match the "energy" and "edge" (or whatever the producer is repeating into the host's ear) to one of Fox's scheduled nightly encounters. It's like bringing a bundt cake to a knife fight: The aggressor doesn't know what to do, and it only gets more vexing when yelling and finger pointing fails. How symbolic, as we may be in the petering out of the Fox era. An Obama presidency and rise of a more philosophical style of leadership -- should those two things even be possible -- would nonplus the blowhards who need a strictly dichotomous partisanship -- in which both sides share a destructive rancor for the other -- in the same way that flag-waving Republicans need a SUV tank full of Saudi oil. The kernel of guilt is the centerpiece of their festering outrage. It's like the black yin dot inside the white yang; the repressed homosexual feelings that drive the Ted Haggards; the acceptance of affirmative action's helping hand that drives the Clarance Thomases. If our leaders actually start thinking about the issues with curiosity instead of with the prejudices and phobias that come from guilt, the O'Reillies would go out of business. Of course, no one without guilt would want to become a political or moral leader in the first place. So there will probably always be a niche for outraged blowhards.

The political scene in Hollywood is starting to more & more resemble what lead up to the French Terror. The question is which actor, director and/or producer ends up stabbed to death in his bath first.

@gwendemarco: I think you misread my post. I wasn't assailing pundits or pols anymore than I was supporting them. I think both types (ie. workers in the politics industry) are generally less potent than people give them credit. I just think it's interesting when their methodologies are revealed unexpectedly.

Like an unapologetically masturbating lamb to to the slaughter...next up, Wells pokes fun at Jenna Jameson and then accepts Tito Ortiz's invitation to sparring practice
