Amateur Pundits Roseanne Barr and Jon Voight Raise the Family-Smearing Stakes

Like most other all-night diners in the vicinity, Defamer's Washington Bureau is positively churning with activity a mere 11 weeks from Election Day. Alas, with so many other outlets having beat us to the punch regarding, say, Barack Obama's fund-raising prowess, we're left to cover an arguably more urgent and immediate controversy affecting liberal firebrand Roseanne Barr and her outspoken conservative archrival Jon Voight. And while it seemed like fun from a distance when the comedienne first lobbed mud last Friday, a closer look today has us dodging sallies in every direction.
In case it slipped by you last week, Roseanne got off a Jon Voight blast labelling the Oscar winner as both a "used tampon" and "frightened little girl in a pink ballet tutu" whose anti-Obama screeds are the bidding of the Republican Party. But Voight's an easy enough target; Roseanne, who's known to blame her worst writing on disgruntled interns rather than 'fess up to blogging under the influence, then took aim at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie — and their kids:
Aren't you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the african daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died because of the republican party's worldwide economic assault on africa over the last few decades since reagan? ... (Ps....it might be good for your asian and african children's self esteem to know you support a brown man for the leader of the free world.)
Roseanne eventually came around (sort of), clarifying yesterday she only meant to cite "the media's images of [Brangelina that] are smelly and vile." We take the silence from the Pitt/Jolie compound to imply it's totally all good, but in his own response this afternoon, Voight wasn't so quick to forgive:
We can never be surprised at what vile evil comes from the mouth of a confessed victim of child abuse at the hands of her own parents. ...
Her defaming of our National Anthem in 1990 gave us insight into who she is and what she is capable of saying and doing. ... I can only pray that good people see her for what she is (sick of mind).
Look, Jon, if anyone knows defaming, we know defaming, and Roseanne's Anthem was more along the lines of what we'd call "tuneless B-list ass-raping." Anyway, can you even defame a song? It's not like she went in the Washington Times and accused Obama of intending to initiate a bloodbath in Iraq. Ugh! Can't we just vote already?

There is an interesting article at www.scene4.com which examines Jon Voight's political views and those trying to silence him

Why is Barbara Walters fighting with Jon Voight?

ok wait, voight is estranged from jolie and barr attacked jolie, prompting an outburst from voight. Would the right move be for jolie to second her dad's defense of her, or attack him for butting in? So many choices!

It would be nice if Roseanne got her facts straight. Angelina's daughter Zahara's biological parents are alive. The mother went public not too long ago.

Roseanne hasn't figured out that her endorsement of any candidate (in the form of an obnoxious rant or otherwise)is likely to help his opponent.

@NotReadyForPrimeTime: I saw that story on one of the celebrity mags, but nothing I haven't heard about it since.
Why does Jon Voight bring up something Roseanne did 18 years ago? Let's get more relevant and recent. "Baby Geniuses" anyone? Oh, wait something Roseanne did. "Home on the Range?" or that crappy reality show on ABC?
I'm glad Roseanne blogged about Brangelina in a not so flattering light. It has been beneath the surface for a while. Someone says something negative about the Brangelina cartel and people defend them with 1.5 million comments saying all the good they do in the world. It doesn't mean they should be immune to some sort of criticism that doesn't go into the "She's a marriage-breaking thunder C-U-NextTuesday!!!" (I can't say the c-word well. I'm too dippy and too white.) aspect.

@td9295:
I'm just saying that Roseanne loses credibility when she doesn't present accurate information or reasonable arguments. She criticized Angelina for the number of children she has given birth to (three), but Roseanne herself has had FIVE. Zahara is not an orphan; her mother gave her up because she could not afford to keep her.
I have no problem with Roseanne or anyone else making valid criticisms. However, you can't support arguments which make no sense.

@NotReadyForPrimeTime: It was just an observation. I wasn't confronting you about the truth of the Zahara's natural parents' existence. I was wondering why it hasn't been brought to anyone else's attention since that mag published it. I haven't read anything else about it. Usually if something is printed about Brad or Angelina, it is repeated 20 times over in blogs, magazines and newsprint.
Sorry for the complication. I was trying to show my dislike to Jon Voight's response. And yes, I am tired of peoples' criticisms without any substance behind it.
