Jon Voight Heightens Election-Year Stakes With Patriotic 'Screw Obama' Op-Ed
Posted by Seth at 5:20 AM on July 30, 2008
Not since Donald Sutherland unleashed a spittle-flecked torrent of anti-Hillarian propaganda in The Huffington Post—denouncing the candidate's "wretched illegitimacy," as if she had ruined Canadian Thanksgiving by pulling off a rubber Kiefer mask to reveal her cackling identity beneath—have we been so shaken by a celebrity-penned attack on a Democratic candidate: National Treasure: Book of Secrets star/estranged grandfather Jon Voight has dared to zig when the Obama-loving free world zags in the op-ed pages of the Washington Times:
The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. [...]
If Mr. Obama had his way, he would have pulled our troops from Iraq years ago and initiated an unprecedented bloodbath, turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies. With what he has openly stated about his plans for our military, and his lack of understanding about the true nature of our enemies, there's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.
While celebrity endorsements continue to evade a stump-shy Hollywood electorate, Obama can now count at least one celebrity-parent-of-a-much-bigger-celebrity as an enthusiastic detractor—something he can spin to his advantage by hosting the $2000-a-plate "Gala Evening of Unprecedented Bloodbaths and Hope" fundraiser at the Jolie-Pitt compound.

@Losin_it:
If Voight is a douche or a tard it's because he's an ACTOR, not his political opinions.
I'm reminded of Trey Parker's commentary on TEAM AMERICA, where he marvels at the culture's willingness to value the opinions of actors/celebrities above that of, say, people who know what they're talking about. Intellect/ethics wise I'd rank most Hollywood types in the same category as thieves, trained bears and village idiots.

@Losin_it: I can't swallow the part about "turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies"
Even Stephen Hadley wouldn't spout such jingoistic nonsense.

@WGARefugee: Whether he's right or wrong is of course debatable. He's not a douche or an idiot because he thinks those things that are quoted.
To me, the fact that he's willing to go against the grain says something positive about him, politics aside.

Well, now I understand why his daughter shunned him for all those years: apart from making one piece of shit after another for the last 30 years, he's an idiotic douchetard. Thanks for clearing that up, Defamer.

Uhhh....Duane, if that's really your name, are you actually that whack job who (allegedly) fucked alec baldwin in his ass, thus inspiring the book of the same name? 'cause you sound a bit...distressed. Someone else is having traumatic flashbacks of the Hamburgler in recent posts, perhaps you can form a support group. But (emphasis mine) leave seth alone.

"...Jon Voight has dared to zig when the Obama-loving free world zags in the op-ed pages of the Washington Post"
really? that's great, especially after he got some of those same paragraphs published in the washington TIMES (emphasis mine). if he pulls off a trifecta by publishing this essay a third time in the washington city paper, does this mean the baby jesus will make john mccain president in order to stop ronald mcdonald from fucking me in the ass all the time (i'm NOT lovin' it, incidentally...emphasis mine)? no? it doesn't? never mind, then, forget i brought it up...

Jon Voight has bad teeth.
Bad teeth live in England.
Therefore the English hate Obama.

@Cacafuego: Funny! Because there was an interview with Cher (the only celebrity from whom I take political advice), where she was asked who she supported. She said she supported Hillary, but that Obama was very nice and seemed honest and kind-hearted; just like someone she ate lunch with many years ago - a Mr. Jimmy Carter.
I'm so not an Obama fan. Everytime they call him the most liberal senator, I wince. I manage to be more liberal than he is, and I live in fucking Memphis.
Team Hillary! Still.

Hey, doesn't it strike anyone else amusing in how conformist the Dem idelogues have become? Like robotic army ants.
And the fact that Obama was a senator for less than 6 months before deciding to run for President should be pointed out a lot more than it is.
And Jon Voight in MIDNIGHT COWBOY and CONRACk trumps his daughter in damn near everything she's ever done, including GIA and GIRL INTERRUPTED.
Here's my tagline for Obama:
"The Black Jimmy Carter!"

On the job for less than six months and he's not even a VP? Dude should come to Hollywood.

Oh, boo hoo. I don't recall the Republicans complaining when George Bush was fellated on a daily basis in the media as the second coming. He fell a bit short of expectations too. They're just pissed to see that Dems can march in lockstep as well. Anyway, it's just an op-ed, and it's coherently written. At least more so than anything by Maureen Dowd, ever.

@Losin_it: Duane Jones played Ben in the original Night of the Living Dead, that's who's in his photo as well, so, not his real name. (Not important, I know, but you got to know your zombie heros, that IS important.)

Barack fell into his spot. Jack Ryan was divorcing Jeri '7 of 9' Ryan. Somehow stuff that was supposed to be sealed, swingers type activity, got out to the press and Ryan dropped out, was replace by Alan Keyes and Obama breezed through that election. That Illions democrartic machine is still up to it trick. Mayor Daley and Dan Rostenkowski would be proud. Can't we get a good third party candidate in this day and age?

First up, the Washington Times is a right wing newspaper. Second, I met Jon Voight at the Beverly Hills Hotel a few weeks ago. He dared to compare his experience on the movie Coming Home to the experiences of the boys in Iraq and what they are dealing with on return. He is a loony. I patiently listened to him spout off his agenda and when I attempted a well thought out reply his answer was "You can't talk to the left". He also kept talking about Walter Reade Hospital being a great place. Guess he never heard about how they wanted to close it due to the rotten care our vets are getting. This man has an agenda, is a career Republican, does not know his facts nor has experience to back it up and is living from a state of fear. No wonder his children ignore him.
