Corey Haim Peers Through The Defamer Looking Glass, Darkly
Posted by Seth at 3:50 AM on July 1, 2008
It's rare that one feels as though they can make a difference on this Big Blue Marble—even more so when that difference directly affects an internationally beloved movie star who's fallen upon hard times. And yet there Defamer was, driving a harrowing sequence from last night's The Two Coreys. At first, we were paralyzed by the "He knows we exist!"-effect that occurs when any lowly Movable Type drone is acknowledged by an eight-times undefeated Tiger Beat Fantasy Boyfriend of the Month. But we soon enough regained rudimentary use of our limbs as we observed Haim being guided by new assistant Nelle to our post about his "I'm ready to work" Variety notice—already considered a masterpiece of the self-perpetuated-comeback trade-ad genre.
The sensitive actor's face then projected a gamut of emotions as he digested the various observations left by our illustrious, if tact-deficient, commenting community. For every heartening message pledging lifelong devotion, there was an equally callous put-down. It all proved too much for a star whose skin was never thickened by the unforgiving Age of the Internets: Haim stormed onto the deck of his improbably swank home, wondering why his detractors had to "type anything? Why read my article?" Sure, Haim has a little trouble discerning between an "article" and a "self-promotional print advertisement"—but that doesn't make the moment any less heart-wrenching. Quentin—just watch that unsolicited VHS audition he submitted for Inglorious Bastards already, so we can all put the rough years and tears behind us, and finally toast to Corey's too-long-overdue return.

I didn't think it was possible for him to exceed the level to which he sank with the ad, but recording him reading comments about it and being affected by them is beyond pathetic.

I was delighted to see Corey learning all about the internets from Nelle (who by the way VERY CLEARLY has a Class 5 Assistant Crush on her employer).
Here's hoping the Haimster does some indies, builds some cred, and proves everybody wrong. And also loses the hat, or at least returns it to Samuel Jackson in 1997.

This is HILARIOUS that he not only read the comments but was affected by them so much. That's even more sad than the original Variety ad. Too bad he didn't read the "meth mouth" and shaky handwriting comments out loud, too. Pathetic.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
Just when I was starting to feel bad for Haim, I saw this A&E listing for the July 13 show (which, of course, I WILL watch!):
10-10:30pm -- The Two Coreys - 14 - Lost Boy
With the Lost Boys 2 shoot looming, the Two Coreys sing each others praises and let Dr. Nicki know that they are in a really good place. But on the eve of the shoot, Corey Haim is a nervous wreck. Haim arrives on set visibly under the influence, and Corey Feldman can only watch in horror as things progress from bad to worse. Haim's first day
back on a film set in fifteen years is a disaster. In therapy the next day Feldman emotionally tells his friend he is throwing it all away and Dr. Nicki calls Haim out on his drug use. Faced with these accusations and his own self-sabotage, Haim walks out.

Gosh..I feel bad for Haim now. I guess it's up to me to get his career back on track since none of YOU guys are gonna do it. First call - Billy Ocean! We need a new re-mix for Get Out of My Dreams (Get into my car) for the soundtrack to License to Drive 2: Suspended! We can't get Heather Graham but it's cool we can get a Lohan or a Kardashian on the cheap. Oh can we get Paulie shore to direct? io hear he's directing now...and would it be too hard to get Haim a cute gf that people know? And the gym. We gotta talk about the gym. Hold all my calls. I'm on a mission.

@Mabimab: to reply to your #1 - that would be ok if they weren't shooting a "reality" show but let's be honest a) it makes for "good" tv (please people, my tongue is in my cheek obvs!) and b) that assistant SO wants him to see that so she can be there for him, you know, to cry on her shoulder or whatev.

Two things:
1. If I had a personal assistant I would not want her to show me these things. It is depressing and harsh and that doesn't help creative types get their work done.
2. Considering the shaky confidence these previous child-actors seem to have, I would definitely say that criticism (destructive or constructive) always appears to tickle their Achilles heel.

I can't stop laughing over Seth calling us "illustrious, if tact-deficient!" It's perfect.
However, I know for a fact the "assistant interviews" were staged. So maybe he's a better actor than I gave him credit for. He's now graduated to Heidi Montag status in my book.

Corey Haim happens upon his assistant's open laptop, and feeling the need for a pity party decides to look online for some more depressing information. He searches frantically for the Netscape icon in her program file without luck. Finally he types "world wide web" in the search menu and finds her Internet Explorer program.
Corey types his name in the Ask.com bar, and stumbles upon this article:
He tries to produce tears but realizes that there are no cameras present. Feeling desperate he grabs his tape recorder and sobs/reads the article into the microphone. He stumbles around looking for a cigarette and gets furious when he realizes that there was one perched behind his left ear all along. He yells into the tape recorder "Fuck it! I lived in Los Angeles in the 80's, motherfuckers!!!"

The thing is Haim was such a talented actor. Giving their friendship, or whatever, he's pop-culturally joined to the hip with Corey Feldman, the lesser Corey. No one is really interested in seeing him look at sites (however cool) or even do a reality show. The only way he's going to prove himself is to stop doing drugs and get a good role again. That's it.

Isn't having your own reality show pretty much the mark of cain? I mean Danny Bonaduce, Gene Simmons, Denise Richards, Paula Abdul, Kim Kardishian, Flavor Flav, Brett Michaels--who on this list isn't an unlikeable, self-obsessed, delusional, disaster? It's the emotional equivalent of stripping, only you drag every stooge and enabler in your sordid life on stage to bump and grind with you. The real stars of these shows are the unsung svengalis who convince the 'talent' that being the marquee act in a carnival freakshow is a good career move.

It took years to fall from grace and it may take that long to become the man you are meant to be. Trial and error. Lead by example. Time and time again will prove you are becoming a new man. I don't know why so many people out there in the world are so critical. I think Corey Haim was justified taking the Ad out in the Variety. He is trying to make Amends. Anyone out there who has been in his position knows what he going through, and what he is struggling with. Ther seriously had to be no way that all the people he has Nelle put on his Amends list would meet with him one on one so he could Apologize for all his wrong doings. Not all people are strong enough to sit there and let someone apoligize for things that happened in the past.
We are people and we all have feelings too.I sat there in front of my television crying feeling bad for how Corey was feeling. Corey had every right to get upset when he read the harsh comments that were left by users of this website. You all know who you are!
Corey Haim and Corey Feldman are just doing what everyone else out there is doing. They have a reality tv series. And when you sit there for a moment and ponder, this is their second season. So fans loved it the first time, and now it's back again a second time! Whoo hoo!
Viewers who have sat there in front of the televison and watched The Two Corey's or any other Reality show, can see from our standpoint how hard is it for some actors in the struggling to make it in the business.
Look at all the other Reality shows out there. Haim and Feldman are doing nothing wrong by having a televison show.
For all the haters: If you don't like the show then don't watch it! When you sit there and watch it, not only are you giving viewer ratings to A&E, but your paying them as well.. Oh wait, your also putting money in the pockets of The Two Corey's as well.
If you don't get anything out of this post then I can't help you, but I can feel sorry for you that you would try to humiliate a human being who has feelings just like you!!
I, as well as all the other fans or viewers out there hopes that both Corey's cand mend their broken relationship. Not because I want to see antother season, but because it's the right thing for them to do! Friendships like there's aren't meant to be broken!

Hey Corey,
If you're reading this, and I hope that you are, don't let any of this negative shit get to you. I am a 34 year old female, and I was a fan back in the day, of course. But honestly, I kinda forgot about you and "the other Corey", until I watched the show last week. I have to say that I really don't think that anyone is giving you a lot of credit for getting clean and sober. We are all human, and while Hollywood (and others) may hold a grudge, I still think you're great, and that you can make a comeback! But it takes a strong person to go through what you did, and come back to town, swallow your pride, try to make amends, and get back to doing what you love! Come on people? WTF?
Not to sound like a jerk, since I know he's your friend and all, but I think that Feldman does come across as somewhat conceited and fake (and his wife, too). I swear that I saw him once in an elevator (all drssed up like Michael Jackson) in Scottsdale AZ back in the early 90's. But he was way too cool back then to even say hello, but whatever!
I also want to say that I totally love Nell, and think that you made the right decision for your personal assistant. She seems great!
Good luck Corey, I am rooting for you dude!

We have all sat in front of the tv watching at least one Reality show. I don't know why everyone has to be so critical of The Two Coreys. There just doing what everyone else in the business is doing. I disagree with the other poster's comment about Nelle being sadistic. She did the right thing by allowing him to read the comments on this and other boards. I think Corey needs to hear the good the bad and the ugly. Actually, I would surmise that what contributed to his demise in the first place was people who lied to him and steered him down the wrong path. Knowledge is power. Also, his ad was sincere. I think he should have said at the top of the ad "A Sincere Apology from Corey Haim" and something to the effect of "If I hurt you in any way I am deeply regretful, please contact me and I will personally make amends"
If I were Corey Haim and I had that much talent, I would study my craft and pour my heart and soul into it. It doesn't matter what happened in the past, being a great actor is all that matters.
I am really hoping the best for Corey Haim and I would/will go see him in the movies.

WOW! What a WHack world we live in. Get over yourselves. :P
Everyone knows that COREY HAIM was the 'intended' star of this show.
Afterall, if your not disturbing, destructive, or just down right dysfunctional, you have NO place in hollywood nowadays. Ratings, ratings, RATINGS!
When the idea of this show was brought to A&E's attention,...what do you suppose was the 'attention grabber'?...Hmm, let's see...could it have been Corey Feldman? [yaaaawwwn]
Sorry, NOT!
My take is that the same people who watched Corey Haim walk that destructive path the first time, and then abandoned him when he got there [for fear of having to take responsibility of course], are the same people in NEED of taking advantage of him now, for the sake of putting money in their own pockets. Even if it's at his expense.

I, alot like a thousand other girls fell for Haim back in the late 80's/early 90's. It was so sad hearing what his life was like when he was only 14 and what had been happening. You always think that something like this cannot happen to someone of his stature at that time. I feel so bad for him, and I am glad he is finally talking to someone about it. Odd to me that it seems like Feldman has moved on from his sexual abuse, and doesn't care to talk much about it, as to where with Haim you can see it is still eating at him. I would love to see him get his life together, and slowly get himself back in the biz. He was such an amazing actor, and I bet he still has it in him. I noticed this season of the Two Coreys is much more serious, and much darker. I have to give Haim a lot of credit for putting himself back out there! Haim is no freakshow as some of you have enjoyed calling him, and I am sure he will prove himself to all you hating asses that like to thrive yourselves on tormenting others and making them feel bad about their life choices. To hell with you.
I have hope for you Haim! I even wrote a movie script for you a long time ago, and still have it! Dreams.....

Allthough I am not a fan of reality shows in general (and I personally did a lot of market research studies and focus groups for many of them in my career) BUT I have to say that I find this show of The Two Coreys very interesting, dare I say moving. A couple years older than The Coreys, I missed much of that phenomenon. But I did see and loved him in Lucas.
After all the hard times he has had and struggles with drug abuse, his vulnerability, warmth and appeal just comes through. He reminds me of a well written leading character in a novel who, under layers of complexity, pain, insecurity, self-doubt, is someone who touches your soul, and you want so much for him to make it in life. (that is the sign of an artist) Very much like Robert Downey Jr. Even after all the abuse Haim has put his body and mind through, he still seems very intelligent and talented.
My advice for Haim is pick your job offers (and agent) carefully - pick Indy work or high quality (if small) parts over the quick B movie money (and don't do any more reality shows after this season - move on). Also, that black hat is not flattering, you have great hair! Also, the black clothing ages you, lighten it up a bit. You're still a good looking guy! Don't let Hollywood (or others trashing you) get to you too much. It's obvious that some people were meant for greatness in life - you were as a young child and YOU STILL ARE! Life is an adventure - but don't take it too seriously, and don't sabotage yourself. If you wash away the layers of the past 15 years of damage and pain, you WILL find your new way. "Take Two!"

I was surprised that Corey's apology was so public. Any rehab, 12 step program includes apologizing to those you have "harmed", but on a personal level. Takes time, but is part of the healing process. Both Corey's have issues that have not been dealt with and need individual therapy. The therapist they are seeing together, couldn't possibly help either one of them as they have not gotten to that point yet. First you deal with the addiction (drug), then deal with the causes. Until the inner issues are dealt with, you can't move on. Call in Dr. Drew! They are both talented individuals but should be seen as such..Individuals. Corey H. - be strong and find a good support group.

Oh, wow, Defamer linked to my Spoiler Alert in the Clip Show blog.
I hope Corey Haim doesn't see it, too, and find out that he has a meltdown in the upcoming episode!!!! Corey: Step away from the computer!

I think Haim would be okay if he just understood that wanting to mend a friendship with a tool like Feldman is probably most of the problem.
If he didn't invite you to his Surreal-Life tv show wedding to his fan club president where he dressed like a swashbuckler, is he really worth having as a friend, Haim?

Woah Defamer, good job! You've increased your commentership threefold it seems. Unfortunately most of the newbies here seem to be Haim's sycophantic supporters.
PS Newbies: Don't read the Amy Winohouse comments. You might end up going down the road rather than across the street.

Awww... Sounds like someone pizzed in all of your Cheerios! Who opened the gate to the clown zoo? You people are sad little things whining because we came to our guy's defense. Yeah, I SAID it! "Our Guy." Whatcha going to do? Cry a river? Because you bullies are being outnumbered? Why don't you go kick some puppies and shove little old ladies while they cross the road.
I think you wusses who pick on someone is just jealousy and self loathing at someone else's expense. Why don't you all get together and knock each other out with your witless comments and have a HUGE ole "haters fanclub" at some Holiday Inn and whine to each other. Wah Wah Wah Corey has more guts than all of you combined. He's trying to salvage his friendships and career and life. Get over it and go pick on someone else. Since it seems to be you fave pasttime... How about I push you out the door? Don't let it hit you on the arse when you go out! Corey Rocks and you can't cope with it. Baby bullies. Get a life already!

@TheLemon: Looks like both you and your buddy raincoaster are all about bragging that you two "made it on t.v." So this is your angle? To write up as much crap as you can to become self-glorified haters on the boob tube? You're PATHETIC buddy! Simply put... walk out the door and keep walking. Go on, Corey and his fans don't need the likes of YOU bozos to pollute the screen. (the morons of the world, I swear!)

Yes. Yes, that's it exactly. Thank you for that splash of cold water in all of our dirty, dirty faces.
Where can we go to sign up for the Corey Haim Army? And where is our next battle? And are there tattoos available so that we can recognize each other in malls?
LEAD US OH GREAT ONE!!111one

The thing that gets me is that in the show 'The Two Coreys' that house does not belong to the Feldman's. A&E set it up to look like a 'You Me and Dupree" situation. The Feldman's live in a rented apartment and don't have a dime to their name. If you don't believe me, go read the posts over on the IMDB boards. I think Feldman was once again trying to derail Corey Haim but it has backfired on him because Haim realized what was going on. The staged and/or scripted attempts to humiliate Corey H. were in vain. That is why the second season is a bit darker, because Corey H. caught on and probably said he would leave the show if they didn't get real.
It get's me too how Corey F. makes fun of Haim and/or backstabs him right in front of the camera every chance he gets. Some friend. Corey, you don't him.
Crank 2, I can't wait!!

To Judy Haim: (Corey's Mom):
Judy, I don't know you but from reading internet blogs here and there I think I have a good picture of who you are. Myself and about 20 million other American women have a few questions for you:
What kind of mother are you? How could you do this to Corey, your own son? How could you let him almost destroy himself? Or did you contribute to his demise?
From what I have read, you are controlling over Corey and have never let him make his own decisions. Are you so weak of a person that you can't let go? You screwed him up once in his career, I'm begging you, don't screw it up this time. Get yourself some professional help this time. If you love your son, please let him go. He has the talent to be one of the great ones, and you know it.
Corey, my Mom is so toxic to me that I can only see her once every three years or so. I know you love your Mom but please distance yourself from her and live your own life the way that YOU want too.
We love you Corey.

@VoiceInYourEar: Where did I brag about having my comment read? Are you even paying attention? But hey, I'm really glad that Corey has you to make everything all better for him. Whew. Imagine the nasty world he might have to face without you by his side, defending him against bad things! If only we were all so lucky to have a VoiceInYourEar telling us how to live our lives, the world would obviously be a better place.
