i lived in the uk (the north of england, near manchester) for 6 years. in all the club fights i saw (i worked at the hacienda for a spell) i never once saw anyone get toted away for swearing at anyone (usually these peeps were drunk as well) when the cops showed up. this must be a very new law OR a very olde one - whatever...both options make it seem scandalous - one might have had an idea of such law then went to create a "situation". i'm just sayin'. money grubbin gypsie trash (gypsies are kind of like trailer park trash)

Yes, an assault in England could in theory be verbal because assault is "committed when a person intentionally or recklessly causes another to apprehend the immediate infliction of unlawful force." ie he was about to lamp his mother.

But on the other hand, we don't execute mentally ill people (or anyone in fact) or hand out semi-automatic weapons to every passing five year old.
