Australia’s Next Top Model Finale – Thoughts From Your Editor

Defamer Australia’s Associate Editor is the queen of all things Australia’s Next Top Model related around here. I’ve never seen an episode due to constantly conflicting schedules/complete and depressing lack of cable television in my life.

However, last night something strange appears to have happened. While Clem was unable to watch the finale, I managed to pop into the right house at the right time on the way home from hosting trivia and watched my first ever episode.

So here are my views on the final – bearing in mind that I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to everything to do with this show.

- Why is Jodhi Meares being employed as the host of a television show she’s too frightened to actually host?

- Why did Jodhi Meares love Demelza so much?

- Is Jonathan Pease dating th winner, or what? Yes, I think the nation managed to pick up on the fact for you it’s all about Demelza, Jonathan.

- Jonathan Pease versus Alex Perry = WINNER IS ALEX PERRY

- Why did the programme show clips of the infamous bullying which barely featured Demelza, and instead made it look like Alex played a role in it?! As someone who had never watched the show before, I was slightly puzzled until my friend Kerry hissed “This is all bullshit, they’re trying to make Demelza look good!”

- Charlotte Dawson is quite good as a host, isn’t she? Way less “I’m going to stab you, and then cry myself to sleep. YAY!” than Natalie Bassingthwaite.

- Although her right boob looked like it might go rogue at any point in that tight Alex Perry creation.

- If Alex is a nicer person, with a better figure, and someone who picked up more modeling jobs during fashion week, and an all round wiser selection for the world of international modeling than someone who is perhaps better suited to the era of mid-nineties Dolly Magazine cover girl competitions… then how the HELL did Demelza win?

- Obviously Napoloeon Perdis’ taste is to be trusted rather than that of an actual Vogue editor.

All in all, I highly enjoyed the finale even though the result was confusing and plain wrong, and I look forward to having bloody Foxtel by the time next year’s program starts so I never have to miss out on a thing.

Yours truly,

Your Slightly More Switched On Editor.

    Quite right in every respect.

Demelza would be a pretty good winner of the Miss Warringah Mall pageant in an average year, or possibly even make a decent Grafton Jacaranda Queen, if she loses the thunder thighs.

Congratulations to Charlotte hosting last night.

Where was Jodie Meares last night? too scared to front a live audience apparently. how pathetic. Would Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks ever do that? or get away with it? How unprofessional. What a fine example of a woman Jodie is hey? Someone should mention to Jodie that spreading ones legs in a bikini on the front of men’s mags does not mean you know anything about high end fashion. But on the plus side she could teach the girls how to skank it up and get a rich man to setup a business for themselves( bikinis in her case) employ designers and management to run the whole thing then claim the accolades. Bravo Jodie, Bravo!!

If anything Jodie and Jonothan Pease should be scrapped from the show based on last years performance where they both said Steph H was the only winner in there eyes and that she would have a huge career in modelling while putting Alice down. Now where is Steph H you may ask? Muffin Break Erina Fair. Where is Alice? now walking the catwalks of Milan, Paris, New York!

Demelza does have a pretty face but she does not have the right body type to make it on the runways of Newyork, Paris etc. Like the guy who runs Elite modelling agency said. “He is just glad he got Alice”. Hence implying no one he saw from this season was worthy.

This series was really bizarre. I hope the producers take on board all the negative feedback and realise there has to be more logic and fairness to the show than this.

I agree, much of the show was geared toward making Demelza look good. The most overt example was when Charlotte questioned both Demelza and Alex on their notorious moments. Demelza was babied, and the angle was pretty much ‘but you’re sorry, and you’re a great person, right?’. Even though Alex’s behaviour (cooking fatty foods for the mean girls) was far more light-hearted and less serious, she was treated as the bad guy of the two. She was almost ambushed: there was a sudden turn to an angle of ‘but that was really bad, wasn’t it?!’, finishing on a negative note, unlike Demelza’s questioning.

The best case scenario is that all this swayed voters that night to vote for Demelza. But I really suspect it’s more that they had already decided she’d win, and the show was about making her seem worthy. IF the public vote was above board, my money is on Pease’ and Perdis’ votes being pre-decided to orchestrate a Demelza win.
Her photos were never very strong and she got worse toward the end plus she was a spoilt, selfish bully throughout the show. I don’t get how the latter was overlooked, especially considering the former (Demelza as well as fellow mean girls Alyce and Rebecca who were completely hopeless throughout. They came 5th and 6th respectively; 4th was Caris whose photos were truly amazing again and again).

The editor of Vogue didn’t want Demelza because of her behaviour (she was the only one wise enough not to think her sweetie-pie apology gives her a clean slate). I don’t get how shyness etc counts against the girls – especially before they are given a chance to gain confidence! – but this doesn’t, when industry professionals are explicitly saying that they don’t want girls like this.

I was obviously watching something totally different (as apparently, were most of my friends). I found Alex to be just at much a bully as Demelza and she has 5 years on her. At least Demelza is an attractive (beautiful) looking girl. Alex is from my local area – saw her at Castle Towers during the show – and just don’t get how she was on the show in the first place. I personally thought Sam should be in the final and was most worthy of winning, but alas, this was not to be, so I am glad it was Demelza.

It was obvious they had already picked DEMONelza when they eliminated Alamela, the target of the bullying immediately. Tyra would have booted DEMONelza’s bullying butt out the door faster than you can say photo-shoot!

Watch for Tyra to comment on bullies and set up a “faux bully photo-shoot.”
