Australia’s Next Top Model 4 Round-Up: Demelza Takes Line Honours
Evidently our “C’mon Tiny Mouth!” campaign to get Alex across the line in the Australia’s Next Top Model finale fell on deaf ears, because – thanks to the public vote after a split judges’ vote – Demelza Reveley is the Cycle 4 winner.
She did not have Kirstie Clements’ (Editor In Chief of Vogue Australia) vote, which means we can all look forward to finding Demelza in an advertorial shoot stuffed up the back of the magazine near the stockists’ list. No cover for you, Demelza!
And, hmm, I wonder what the press thinks about the result? A sampling of headlines:

And so on. They make a good point – with the focus on bullying, cyber bullying and harassment in the media currently, what message does it send to young girls? That you can bully your way to the top? That it’s okay to be a bully if you have a pretty face?
Unfortunately I can offer no thoughts on the finale as I wasn’t even within a 10km radius of anyone with a) Foxtel or b) a VCR and b.i) a courier helicopter, so can only go on what is reported in the papers and what was relayed to me via SMS.
And on the latter topic, the bulk of the SMSes were along the lines of “OMG WTF no Jodhi?” – evidently Ms Meares has a fear of live television (and sent well wishes to the finalists via video link). So, er, doesn’t that mean she’s a pointless choice as a host, if the “Live Finale” is the glittering jewel in the AusNTM crown?

Australia’s next “top mole” more like it. “Demolza” The Razzle shed a tear as the credits rolled and poor old Allamela was the only one left out of the full-time huddle to sing the theme song. Clearly Demelza’s heart felt apology was purely one for the cameras. You dont fool me Demolza! Pease and Perdis however always put a smile on my dial…… i was waiting for miss piggy to pop up behind Perdis who was looking very kermit the frog in his lime green jacket, and deliver her famous quote reminding demelza to “never eat more than you can lift” (and i hope you trip and fall on your pretty face demolza) ner ner ner ner nerh!
I am so fed up with all the bad press Demelza is getting! Seriously last season Jordyn and Steph sort of bullied Paloma but everyone loved Jordyn because Paloma was a “bitch.” Ya the depressed Paloma who was incredibly unstable totally deserved it whereas a composed girl that barely reacted to it is like the biggest deal ever. Demelza was the most improved girl of cycle 4, she showed great maturity for her age and she grew so much on the show plus comitting to losing so much weight at 16!!! It shows she is really passionate and then there was Alex seriously who was just as much of a bitch and she was older so she should have been more mature. What about Sam and what about Alyce Crawford they bullied Alamela but they are not getting the bad press at all! I think Sam should have won because she was great but she never apologized to Alamela. I also thought Caris was amazing but in person she lacked so much charm that is needed. Demelza has the personality and maturity and the most amazing looks and now the press is ruining her “career” that has not even started yet. This pisses me off, what about giving her credit for her losing so much weight and still looking healthy that is a positive role model, apologizing and admiting to having done something wrong is absolutely role model like! it takes maturity to admit to being wrong, Alamela never even bothered to stand up for herself, she was weak and that made her a target, if Demelza had not bullied her someone else would have. So piss off no one is perfect but she improved significantly and out of the 2 that were left she deserved the prize!
demelza deserves the bad press that she’s getting. It’s karma. I hope it follows her wherever she goes.
Australia’s Next Top Bully
Demelza looked like she was going to the year 11 formal during the final, Alex looked like a model. Demelza is pretty, she would make a good actress. She’s a shit model, thats all there is too it. She’s blah.
She is young, i am sure we all made mistakes and made fun of someone around our peers to impress them. She is 16 for gods sake, we were all learning life lessons at that age. She made an apology and it was a mature one at that. Let the poor girl grow up the same way we all did instead of shunning her for every slip up she makes. If she was 25 it would be a different story but she is 16…

This is Australia’s next top model- its not about being nice. Last time i checked models were not required to be good role models for young girls. Demelza is being picked on because she IS only 16 and therefore is directly associated with being a role model for other young teenage girls. The fashion industry is renowned for being catty and bitchy where models dont eat and chain smoke. Who says demelza is supposed to set a good example- she didnt win Miss Australia! All the other girls were just as bitchy and took part in the ‘bullying’. I watched the entire series and no one seems to remember Alamela laughing at Demelza and calling her fat, making snide comments like “at least i don’t need to lose weight”. When stuff like that happens to a 16yr old she is sure to fight back.
I think the press should leave her alone because she has worked hard to get to where she is and if she is a bitch then she should fit right in to the modelling world. Alice was a whingeing diva last year but a fantastic model so who cares about her personality (or lack there of). Nobody really cares what a model has to say- as long as they’re not throwing cell phones at their maids. They just need to shut up and look good.
What the cameras didn’t show was that Demelza and the other “bitch-kateers” also put condoms filled with mayonaise in Alamela’s bed and chilli in her food. I don’t think anyone can call that showing “great maturity for her age”.
Bullying is not an inevitable consequence of someone being meek! To say that someone else would have bullied Alamela for this reason is absurd!
And Demelza didn’t “fight back” at Alamela’s comments. If anything, it was the other way round, so don’t use that as an excuse.
If one of the other “bitch-kateers” had won, people would be horrified at that result too. It looks like Demelza is being rewarded for bad behaviour. What she did was disgusting and should be labeled as such. End of story.
this is actually kind of amusing this whole against demelza thing is because of her “bullying” the sad truth is she is a normal 16 year old girl who actually handled the whole thing very well, im 16 and i know i would not have coped as well as she did if it was me in that position. people saying she is fat and fake aswell as other things just remember that is bullying in itself. she is beautifull she worked hard there were other girls doing the same thing she just took alot of the wrap also being so younge other girls will have a influence on you which i think some of the other girls did on her, she is getting so much crap from the press and were just going along with it cause thats the way we would like to see this girl who we have merely seen on tv and are in no real position to judge, it is expected from the press remember all it is is a good story and were the ones who eat it all up my advice is form your own opinion prefferably a smart one considering you dont her and give the girl a chance noones saint it doesnt make her a horrable person she also has probably throughout the competition learnt alot and the poor girl probably isnt coping is well as you would think she is because most like to see her as a cold hearted bitch it’s all pretty stupid i think.
