YouTube Clip Of The Day

Australian Post Posted by Jess McGuire at 9:56 AM on June 23, 2008

Little known fact about Your Editor. Often when I am strolling the streets of Melbourne while wearing my iPod, trying to look all deep as though I am listening to Suicide or Leonard Cohen or whatever, I am in actual fact listening to amazing ballads of yesteryear. And one of my favourite ballads of yesteryear is Gyan's Wait.

Can you imagine how I just about SHAT MYSELF WITH GLEE when I hit the YouTube homepage to discover one of the channels I subscribe to had banged up the official video clip to the song? I didn't even know the song had an official video clip! Best. Monday. Ever.

I think these days Gyan's living in Byron and putting music to Leunig drawings or something, but when you're responsible for the most powerful and stirring Australian anthem of the late eighties, you can do whatever you want for the rest of your days, as far as I'm concerned.

Christ I'm a bandit for some ballads of yesteryear too, and I'm ashamed to admit I've never heard this one. Just when i thought i'd spent enough saturday nights at home brushing up on 80's corkers.

Oh, wow. It didn't even sound vaguely familiar I read the title and artist but when I played the video, I recognised it within 5 seconds.

And yes, I believe I did used to like it.

Christ almighty, this is hands down the best effing thing you've ever posted. Just the first 10 seconds takes me back to the days when I would proudly rock a mullet while sporting fluoro coloured clothing and snap bracelets.

While I'm here, do you think you could help me find out the name of a song that's been stuck in my head for months? And being the power ballad connoisseur that you are, you may be able to help me. All that goes through my head is a guy belting out "whoa ohhhhhhh, whoa oh oh oh oh" and so on and so forth. Kind of like the whoa's from Happy Birthday Helen by Things of Stone and Wood but with more feeling. From what I remember, it's very piano driven and not many other instruments are used. Definitely 80's. The actual lyrics escape me but he's got a very unique voice. I wanna say he's Australian, but I have no clue. So yeah, I know it's not much to work with but I believe you can help.
