Battle At Paradise Cove: Matthew McConaughey's Surf-Toughs Pummel Beach Paps
Posted by Seth at 4:05 AM on June 24, 2008
The heat, a killer surf, and a clear shot of Hollywood's favourite shirt-eschewing leading man was a recipe for disaster this weekend. Having returned from his recent Nicaraguan escapades a proud flop-owner in search of his missing flip, Matthew McConaughey combated our city's punishing heat wave by hitting the tasty breaks of Malibu's Paradise Cove. It was there that several upstanding members of our city's paparazzo community—hoping to catch that elusive, $1 million photo of McConaughey hanging toes to the nose while clutching his newborn—were confronted, and ultimately assaulted, by an intimidating and unruly mob of board-shorted surfing henchmen. From the LAT:
"They formed a semicircle in front of his camera and they said they didn't want him to film," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore. "They got into an argument, and he indicated that he received injuries. . . . [They] took the video camera and threw it in the water." [...]
One of the group of apparent paparazzi on the x17online video appeared to argue with the surfers, saying that the beach was public property and he had every right to be there.
"This is public property, this is public property," he said.
The video then shows two beachgoers chasing one of the paparazzi, dragging him into the water and kicking him.
Two videos from the event—one from TMZ.com, above, and another at X17online.com—demonstrate the extreme lengths to which this Brotherhood of Drunk Beach Assholes Doing Righteously By Their Superstar Brah will go towards safeguarding McConaughey's access to the epic waves that sate his untamable, surf-hungry spirit. The battle has only begun.

go, surfer dudes. Paradise Cove used to be a quiet place you could take your kids for a beach experience. Now it's crawling with vermin (those with cameras, whose occupation is competing to make people miserable). I was never a fan of territorial surfers, but now . . . they are fighting to iprove circumstance for all of us who can't afford a beachfront home.

Actions have consequences. For the paps, it's payback time. Team Vigilante!

That's right, Bros. Fight for the honor of Matthew McConaughey. That's a cause worth fight for. Don't let those evil photogs hurt one plugged hair on his head. We need to make sure Matty's around to make another vital contribution to the American cinema canon: Fool's Gold II: Pap Attack at Paradise Cove.

Guess someone is still miffed over his "family-man" charade bubble being burst.

Hmm...I'm torn about which group has the bigger asshole quotient: Territorial Malibu Surfers or Paparazzi...
Maybe we should just let these gentlemen settle things among themselves.

Someone's pitching "Point Break 3" at 20th Century Fox right this very instant:
"See instead of bank robbers, the surfers this time are vigilante paparazzi knee-breakers!"

Why is McConaughey so hot again all of a sudden? Is it because of the baby?
Anyway, I don't blame MM for getting his drink on before the blessed event and I think that he handled that situation in a super-cool way but he should have tried to rein in those surfer guys (if it was within his power to do so). Like it or not, those paps WERE doing their job; one that they are not being paid millions of dollars to do (unlike Matty). Throwing their cameras in the water and causing physical injury because they were trying to get a pic of MM surfing? Sorry, no ... that's not cool.

@CourageousCoward: I'm with the Cat on this one. I find Matthew, even in his drunken shirtless glory, a higher form of life than the Paps. Send 'em packing to go chase Britney amd Lindsay, surfer dudes!

Can we send some surfers up to Mulholland to kick the shit out of the double-parked losers who stake out the entrance to The Summit?

back off, warchild! (i cant believe no one has said that yet.) anyhoo, i'm guessing the surfers just didnt want anyone filming a surfer, and they werent upset on matthew mcconnaghey's behalf. they probably feel the ocean should be an escape from that kind of bullshit and i agree. (disclaimer: have not watched video so i dont know how douchey this encounter was)

Why is it that men don't like to be photographed in cold water while women do? What are they so nervous about? Somebody give me a clue here--is it a long answer or a short answer?
