'Grey's' Insider: 'I Don't Want To Say Katherine Heigl's An Ungrateful Bitch, But--Oops! I Guess I Just Said It!
Posted by Seth at 9:00 AM on June 14, 2008
It's been two days now since our relatively peaceful, reacharound-loving community has been rocked by "I Do Not Feel I Was Given the Material This Season to Warrant a Nomination"-Gate. For those late to the party: Gold Derby blog had noticed polarizing actress-figure Katherine Heigl's name missing from a list of contenders; approached for comment, she explained that she had knowingly compromised Emmy-nominating protocol—and by extension, the very fundamentals upon which this great country is based!—by gallingly withdrawing herself from Best Actress consideration. And for what? For what she deemed to be substandard character arcs for her character on Grey's Anatomy. (In Heigl's defence, in Season 2 she was curled up in a hospital bed with her expired fiance; this season, she had a brief dalliance with her gay best friend followed by a torrid affair with a homicidal caribou.) Still, according to one series insider who spoke to EW.com, the thanklessness is beyond belief:
"The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material?"
"It's an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place."
Beyond just that, these are the Emmys we're talking about: Oscar's Paste-Eating Cousin™, where lackluster material paired with long-haul dependability reign supreme. You think three-time-winner, five-time-nominee Tony Shalhoub is doing Chekhov over there? It's Monk! No one's ever even seen that show!

I don't get the hype. It's the Media looking to create a firestorm. She bailed out of a competition she didn't think she deserved a spot in. Sure, she phrased it kind of stupidly, but it sounded more like someone who wanted to make sure she didn't take a spot she didn't deserve.
We're all so quick to fault those who take awards they don't deserve, why not give some credit to those who make sure they keep things fair?
Of course it all COULD be a genius plan to get booted from the show for film opps. But if so, look how that worked with the High School Musical chick who supposedly leaked the nudie cell phone pics. Speculation was that SHE'D done it to get away from Disney.
Didn't work out so well.

Dear Katherine Heigl,
Leave the tv show, start your own production company(Goon Productions) and chow down.
You've got the clout, the balls and the balls.
And you're a goon.

i have to believe that something went down between her and Grey's producers about her contract that made her do this. i mean, i'm sure she's bitched about her character to shonda a bunch of times, so maybe she felt that she wasn't being heard?
anyway, heigl, you've succeeded in me grudgingly respecting you for your actions. you're a true bitch and i mean that as a compliment. actors are often seen as the lowest of the top-of-the-line people and i suppose in their own way can be treated like shit. but it's that nagging financial compensation that will allow you to have few sympathizers. that's why i want to be a writer so i can be trated with respect. oh wait...

The writers should refuse Emmy nomination citing this seasons shitty acting.

The probability that she refused an Emmy nomination strictly for reasons of integrity is somewhere between zero and absolute zero. Look at how she did it to understand her real motives.

I can't stress enough how rare this is. You know how rare? It's never happened before. This is basically bumptiousness, stupidity and total lameness. So glad the insider called her out on this, I hope more Heigl does more stuff like this, it's actually entertaining.

Let's see, a burgeoning ego, a bit of a film a career. Why doesn't she just avoid the loooong career hiatus, slap on a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and star in CSI Seattle and

@jasonelias:
It's sort of happened before...I think Matthew Perry withdrew himself from competition once because he was put up for Best Actor, while the other guys on Friends were up for Supporting, and he felt bad. I can't remember.

Anyone remember Roswell? Hmmm? Well, I do. Truly Emmy quality stuff.

@ginnypotter: That's how it happened with Perry. His publicist did it. Given that show's history I can understand it. Heigl on the other hand remains totally confounding.

George Clooney, the most beloved man in the universe, does not approve. Did he bitch about his ER character, or did he just do his work and move on?
Reflect on this, milady, and I bid you good day.
I said, good day!

What's the deal with this chick? I mean, who does she think she is? I try not to get bothered by the actions of persons I do not know, or actions that will not effect my life...BUT, this girl has got to go. I don't understand how she can feel like she is THAT important to the entertainment industry. REALLY...27 Dresses sucked and bombed at the box office, and the little tantrums about not getting attention?..an Emmy nomination is not good enough? Get a grip lady and step off the soap box!

I've been at parties with her and I think she smells weird. I am not kidding. And my industry insiders say that the whole show is a douchefest except for Brooke Smith.
BTW, Tiger Tanaka is the second coolest Defamer handle after mine.

Hey Katherine, I can do better. I do not feel the show was given the material to warrant viewers sticking around this season, writers strike or not.

If I remember right hasn't Heigl displayed diva behavior with every series she was involved with? I remember reading about similar stunts on Roswell.
Frankly, its seems to be pretty damn dumb to piss of the very people responsible for the words that gave you back your career (she seems to forget she was a nobody a couple of years ago). I guess the writers just need to "forget" to come up with story idea for her and "accidently" give more lines and better story arcs to the other actors.
And she better watch it. Audiences do not have the same tolerances for ego like they use to. She takes it to far and people will simply turn off on her and that will not do her movie career any favors.

It amazes me how these stars can treat anyone, any kind of way. I think that if they don't like what they do, then they should move on. The writers and producers need to get together, find great talent. Some stars are very ungrateful and need to remember their roots. The world doesn't evolve around them. There are so many people who would love to be in their shoes.
