Loud, Coarse Motorhead Legend to be Featured in Surprisingly Loud, Coarse Documentary
Posted by Defamer Hollywood at 10:00 AM on May 23, 2008
Where to even start when discussing a documentary about Lemmy Kilmister, the legendary Motorhead frontman and apparent subject of a forthcoming film appropriately enough titled Lemmy? Even the fucking co-directors don't even know, with filmmaker Greg Olliver telling Billboard today: "Shooting Lemmy is like filming dangerous wildlife. He never does what you expect him to do, and he never does anything you want him to do." Olliver's partner, Wes Orshoski, agreed: "Lemmy never ceases to surprise me. ... You think you know who Lemmy is, but you have no idea. If you think you have Lemmy all figured out, trust me. You don't!" Actually... we think we might.
After all, both the trailer streaming over the doc's Web site and Billboard's own review confirm it: "A distribution deal hasn't yet been inked, but the teaser clip [features] onstage footage and such amusing backstage segments as Kilmister testing out a bass amp at deafening volume and telling dirty jokes." The hell with it — make it two films with Benicio Del Toro as Lemmy and a sack lunch with beer during intermission when it premieres at Cannes '09. Distributors love that shit! Oh, wait.

"he chase is sweeter than the catch. "
Sadly this may also in re the matter of Truly Knowing Lemmy himself. Perhaps he is better as a paradox wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a mystery...

Calling Lemmy coarse and loud is a profound understatement. Even a feces-throwing Bonobo ape would avert his gaze if Lemmy passed by his cage at the zoo.

Ace of Spades came out 28 years ago. Wait, is this documentary about Ted "dangerous wildlife" Nugent, who's still completely relevant?

My favorite moment from the one Motorhead live show I saw was when the band first hit the stage. Lemmy strolls to the mike and, while adjusting the strap of his bass, says: "We are Motorhead ... and we're gonna fuck you up." It was no lie.

This is why Tim Schafer picked him to do voice work in Brutal Legend.

You haven't lived until you've witnessed Lemmy in his natural habitat: By himself in the back of the Rainbow, completely absorbed in a tabletop video game.
I was there once, and the bar cleared out to watch a fight on the sidewalk in front. I was standing next to Lemmy, watching two guys kick the shit out of each other,
One of the guys was wearing a kilt.
I tried to be a smartass and turned to Lemmy and said "The guy in the kilt always wins." Lemmy didn't say anything for an uncomfortable amount of time. Then he looked me dead in the eye and said "Not always".
Then he went back inside to play his game.
The end.

My understanding of Lemmy is that scene from the Crow where the Lead Bad Dude gets delivered a drinking straw and a giant mound of coke on a plate. Except it's meth.
And any movie that either confirms *or* debunks that idea will still leave me more or less delighed.

figuring out "Lemmy" has been on the top of my to-do list for so long now it's bypassed "who is Madonna really?" and "where is Matt Lauer?"

"Lemmy never ceases to surprise me. ... You think you know who Lemmy is, but you have no idea. If you think you have Lemmy all figured out, trust me. You don't!"
which leads me to believe that he's probably well-groomed, soft-spoken and polite, with an affinity for drinking herbal teas and reading English poetry. and that the wart is a prop...

I read an interview with Lemmy in Q a few years back where he talked about his prodigious meth usage. He said his doctor told him his body had become so acclimated to the drug it would probably be worse for his health to quit than to keep taking it. He then talked about the wart on his face and his pride in being one of the ugliest men in rock. In short, if you were stuck in an elevator with Lemmy, you'd probably be entertained.
