So You Think You Can Dance Australia Round-Up: Rhys Renovates The House That Jack Built

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:53 AM on April 22, 2008

Jack SYTYCD.jpgIt's the pointy end of So You Think You Can Dance Australia and that means we're close to finding out who is Australia's Favourite Dancer™, out of a choice of Jack, Rhys, Demi and Kate. We'd actually be pretty happy about any of those four winning, though the odds are on Jack, with Rhys steadily gaining in second place, and Demi and Kate coming third and fourth in the betting respectively.

Assuming SYTYCDAus is following the US model, we should be able to look forward to a 'greatest hits' package for the finale - the only problem is, we can't think of more than a handful of routines we'd care to see again.

Are we the only ones having this problem? As we draw to the close, what is your take on this inaugural season of the local version? Personally, we can't wait for - and hope Channel Ten bloody well show - the next round of "the real thing".

The only routines I'd really like to see again are the Sermsah/Camilla Martial Artsy one and the Rhys/Jemma Waltz and Paso. Oh, and the Blackbird group number.

What we probably will get is 43 fucking Hip Hop routines by Nacho Pop most with the girls either a) dressed as men or b) acting like whores.

i would loooveee to see the singing in the rain hip hop routine which was very cool. I would honestly rather die than see those stupid acts that each group made themselves. They never did that in the US and the only entertainment value came from what a trainwreck it was to watch. Not Australia's Favorite Coreographer indeed!

Honestly, I think the Australian version is a travesty. Everything is a slightly less professional replica of the US version: the judges annoy me, Natalie is beautiful but not as captivating as Cat Deely (sp?), and the routines are subpar at best. I KNOW we have even better dancers out there, but where are they?! I mean, put any one of these kids into a dance-off against any one from the top ten in the US version (from any season), and we'd have a K.O. in minutes. It's just embarrassing.

I knew there was a problem when even the amazingness/hilarity of Nat Bass was unable to keep me interested. I know she'll understand, it's not her, it's the show. Been pretty bloody boring, hasn't it?

Bring on the American one. Mary FFS. MARY!
