New Line Set To Slash 90% Of Its Workforce
Posted by Mark Graham at 9:45 AM on April 15, 2008
Sad news to report. The rumors that we heard earlier this afternoon about impending layoffs at The House That Freddy Built have come to fruition. Variety is reporting that Time Warner is pinkslipping 450 New Line staffers, a number that equates to nearly 90% of their current payroll, as the newly scaled-down shingle merges into the larger Warner Bros fold. The worst part? Although notifications of the dismissals began earlier this afternoon, they won't be completed until tomorrow, which means that a number of employees will be spending the evening unsure as to whether or not they'll even have a job at this time tomorrow. Synergy just ain't what it used to be. If you hear or see anything else (memos, etc.), please send 'em our way. [Variety]

Huh? I thought horror flicks were huge right now. Wasn't Prom Night just number one? I'm scared and alone. Where is Wes Craven going to end up?

OK, I'm going to have to be the one to say this out loud, but from now on everyone who is laid off must choose between execution or being put on a bus to North Dakota. We who have already been laid off and are trying to emotionally and economically survive by being under-employed in "affiliated industries" just will not put up with the competition and call first dibs.

R.I.P., NLC.
In addition to the decent films you did manage to put out, I think I shall really miss your annual Xmas & beach parties of long ago.
And I've finally forgiven you for giving that director a shot at _Money Talks_. Onward & upward.

I went on some exploratory interviews last year, and one contact suggested I pursue work at New Line. I saw the writing on the wall, and did not follow that advice. Bewkes is really taking a machete to that place.

Their record label is folding as well; heard from a guy signed to them that his band needs to find a new label.
