Jamie Lynn Spears Spends 17th Birthday At Wal-Mart, And We Forgive Her
Posted by Molly Friedman at 5:05 AM on April 8, 2008
Just as we were about to laugh a little bit at Juno Lynn Spears' decision to spend her 17th birthday at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant and going on a shopping spree at Wal-Mart, we remembered back to our 17th birthday and stopped laughing. We were in college, in suburbia, and spent the day in class, then at some chain restaurant with our boyfriend, and probably at the movies in the mall. How quickly we forget that Jamie Lynn is still just a kid! Just because she's grown up before our eyes and starred in a hit show and, well, gotten pregnant, doesn't mean the girl shouldn't abandon her awkward late teen years and all the mall-filled nights that go with them. More details on our favourite real-life Juno and her day of kicking "16 And Pregnant!!!" headlines to the curb, after the jump.
The truth is, we secretly wish our birthdays were still spent more in the fashion of Jamie Lynn's, including one of this very lovey-dovey dinners that gets noticed by other diners. As a source told People, "They were like a little adult couple, very low-key." Like an adult couple? Ahem, notice anything adult just above the waistline? In any case, JL and fiance Casey Aldridge, a very adult-sounding 18 years old, headed to the Wal-Mart near his house in Mississippi after dinner to curiously look at sleeping bags. We suggest Jamie Lynn check with big sis Britney, who's been through this twice before. Britney may have boarded a few yachts, but we don't think she was planning any camping trips at 8 months.

@ least Jamie kept the baby while so many other pregnet teens would just of had an abortion. Theres a girl at my high school who has had 4 abortions and is still sleeping around. Give her some credit.

Ruby Tuesday is probably the classiest restaurant in the area.

And CourageousCoward, think about it again. 17th birthday means they were enrolled at 16.

@CourageousCoward: Correct, which means she was 16 when she started college.
Also, I was joking.

@heidiho: We had plenty of 16-year-olds at my university. We used to beat them up and kick them out of parties, but they were definitely there.

@heidiho: Actually, she says her 17th birthday, not 16th. And if she were in college at 17, I would guess that she was born late in the year and turned 18 during her freshman year.

Still amazingly adorable. I suppose that will change with a screaming baby on her arm.

I have to admit, those ads that featured the crabcakes a few months back did get me wondering where I could find a Ruby Tusday around here...um, does anyone happen to know, you know, in case those ads start up again?

16-year-old college freshmen unite! And then it took me--ahem--eight years to finish a two-year master's.

Is it true that she is being a surrogate mom for Britney because Britney lost her kids..?

Did anyone else notice that the article in People says that her parents were in LA with Britney on Jamie Lynn's birthday?
Sorry, Jamie Lynn, but even teen pregnancy can't distract Mommy and Daddy from your rich sister.

@CourageousCoward: @Crinkelbert_Fishtybuns: Yes, the joys of entering college at 16 are sadly shared amongst that teensy tiny minority who actually boldly declared themselves freshman at 16. All I can do is offer this advice for any Defamer readers with Babymania: Make sure that bundle of joy is born in November. He/She will be equipped with that oh-so-mysterious, oh-so-vexing quality that comes with being the youngest in your class. It's a truly joyful way to go through high school, being all, "I'm supposed to be in the grade below but take a look at my AP classes," and "I just got my first job on my 21st birthday while all you 22-year olds are still scraping the barrel of Daddy's bestset friends' connections" and more.
To this day I thank my parents for making sure their November baby was the youngest in the class v. the oldest. It's the wise (however capitalistic) choice to make for Jr.
