Denton Not Planning On Attending The Logies Despite Nomination, Also Unlikely To Interview David Hicks (Unless The Former Guantanamo Bay Resident Has A Penchant For Freddo Frogs)

andrewdenton.jpgIt's going to take more than a Gold Logie nomination to get Andrew Denton to break his tradition of watching the awards ceremony in the comfort of his own home whilst wearing his pyjamas.

... on the night of May 4, when the industry elite turn out at Melbourne's Crown Casino for the 50th Logies, the host of Enough Rope With Andrew Denton hopes to be tucked up at home.

"Don't get me wrong, I love the Logies, but I think the best way to watch them is at home on the couch in my jammies," he said.

"I love awards nights but some people would argue that they are best watched at home on television and I am one of those people. I would definitely say that. And the advantage of watching them from home is that you can flick around during the boring bits."

Denton, 47, has watched every Logies ceremony since the age of 10 but only ever attended two - as host in 1999 and 2000.

Should he win - and the betting suggests he won't - he would become only the second Gold Logie winner to miss the presentation. Jana Wendt was absent when named winner in 1992 for her role on A Current Affair.

He also reveals in this interview with The Sun Herald that there are no plans for David Hicks to appear on his popular talk show Enough Rope.

Enough Rope With Andrew Denton has already created a buzz this year for the Wayne Carey interview, but its host holds little hope of reeling in 2008's other big fish, former Guantanamo Bay inmate David Hicks.

"I would love to say I am interviewing David Hicks but the truth is he's very reluctant to be interviewed because the last time he was interviewed the questions went on for about a year and the circumstances were less than comfortable," he said.

"Other people are offering him many hundreds of thousands of dollars to talk and all we can offer him are Freddo frogs."

But how many Freddo frogs, Andrew? That's the important question.
