New Jerry Seinfeld Sitcom Set To Plunder More Of Larry David's Ideas
Posted by Seth at 2:55 AM on March 8, 2008
Jerry Seinfeld hasn't had a whole lot to do since his seminal sitcom left the airwaves (completely voluntarily, despite what Larry King might have thought); his surfeit of downtime has been primarily filled slandering his wife's plagiarism accuser and shitting CGI honey-pats on the Oscars podium. It turns out, however, that Seinfeld will not sit idle much longer:
Sources tell PageSix.com that the 53-year-old comedian is in talks for a new series on his old net. The show is being pitched as "just like Curb Your Enthusiasm, but with Jerry, instead of Larry."
The series, which is aiming for a June premiere, will be set in New York and will feature Jerry Seinfeld playing himself in an exaggerated reality.
Using the Curb blueprint as just a launching point, the show will also incorporate elements from those completely racist and unfunny TV Juniors spots that NBC ran ad nauseam prior to Bee Movie's release. (Remember the one where they likened animators to illegal aliens, tackling them at a border fence? That was hilarious!) The result, What Is The Deal, will pit an exasperated Seinfeld against a variety of brown-faced service sector workers, who, as it turns out, really are the valet, after all.
UPDATE: Looks like PageSix.com got duped; NBC is denying this report to the high heavens.

JS sucks. That movie was terrible. The ads for the movie were atrocious. All of his jokes are about lawyers and taxi cabs. His sense of humor is lacking. He reminds me of a Long Island dentist who thinks he's funny.

It's just like "Curb Your Enthusiasm," only not as funny.
Or interesting.
Or original.

@ragepotato: though the characterization as "honey-pats" is way too generous. He had what, seven years to write three lines?

It's a waste without Larry David and he's otherwise occupied.

The words "shitting CGI honey-pats on the Oscars podium" have given me the will to live. Also, Jerry Seinfeld is a dick.

In other news, Sarah Jessica Parker is in talks to play a version of Candace Bushnell in a regular television series for HBO.

I thought that once the world figured out it was David who was the brains behind the machine Seinfeld would nicely continue to collect his bazillions in the safety of a $20 million townhouse somewhere on the Upper East Side. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Oh great!! Because that Bee movie was so fabulous!! Ever since I emerged from the movie theatre, I have been clamouring for Jerry to return and regale us with more of his brilliance.

So it's a show about nothing. Can't wait.

Does this mean the witch doctors at NBC are resurrecting Must See TV™? I can hear the promos now...

Much better news would have been that his wife found a way to hide him in her food -- Sweeney Todd style.

Note to Jerry: no guest spot by Michael Richards.

@Dusty in the Wind: Which is exactly why I won't be watching it. I think Jerry's ego was easier to hide when he was in an ensemble rather than the "star." After sitting through a month of painfully unfunny Bee Movie Junior spots while watching 30 Rock, I am immune to his gags.

What Is The Deal?
Sounds like the kind of trash washed up celebs do when they need more money for drugs or rehab. Jerry has BILLIONS! Why would he disgrace himself like this? He waited waaaaaay too long for a comeback. Any desire I had to watch Seinfeld re-runs expired a few years ago.
Now I just want to punch him for wearing blue jeans, a blazer, and white sneakers.

"The series... will feature Jerry Seinfeld playing himself in an exaggerated reality."
I'm not sure how you could exaggerate a megalomaniac asshole who dates minors and newlyweds, and is married to a plagiarizing whore.

Jerry Seinfeld is funny, but he's a terrible actor. The only way people won't mind is if he's surrounded by a cast of good actors. But the "Curb Your Enthusiasm", style is more about the main actor, so this will probably bomb.

Its pretty disapointing to find out that we could have had Larry David all those years instead of that seinfeld crap. I really feel like we were duped.
I want a do-over, & Jerry, enough already.

@louisev: isn't it though? I read one TV commentator who said that the dreary and unfunny final years were the result of Jerry writing the show himself without Larry's moderating influence. And I just read in the MSM that Jerry has denied the rumor. There is a god.

Wasn't 'Seinfeld' just 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' without Larry and then 'CYE' is 'Seinfeld' with Larry instead of Jerry and now we're getting 'CYE' with Jerry instead of Larry??? I'm right, right?
I never laughed at Seinfeld. I laughed sporadically at CYE for the first couple of episodes years ago ('beloved *unt' was genius) but it's so mind-numblinlgy formaliac now. So naturally, I cannot wait for Jerry's version of CYE!
Watch British Comedy people, please! It's innnovative, original, funny, enjoyable, talented, fun, intertesting comedy. Not all of it is but most most of it is and it's a huge improvement & decades ahead of US comedy.

It'll be a show where Jerry gets into a car accident with someone without insurance so the judge decrees that the uninsured guy becomes Jerry's butler, just like the sitcom his character and Costanza sold to NBC in the series.
And just like that show-within-the-show, this new project should run one episode and then be canceled.
